I'm in the market for a new laptop but I'm not sure which one is the better quality computer. Dell XPS 1330 or the Sony VGN-SZ 640.

Are you sure you want to make a decision based only on quality? I suggest you consider closely what you will need from your laptop, then pick the most suitable laptop between the two.

PS; if you are sure, I would tell you to go for the Sony SZ.

Based on what I've seen on the introductory 1330s, there's no way in HELL I'd even consider one at this point. Not only will you have to wait 2 months to get it, the build quality is pure crap from the threads I've read.

Vaio. It's cheaper and better and you'll get it in a week instead of 2 months.

I have an XPS M1330 and it is a very good laptop - no quality issues - I did have to wait 2.5 months to get it.

Dell though are struggling with quality issues, they are also messing up on the spec as they have done with mine and as they refuse to replace the bits that are missing I will be passing this laptop on.

I am currently waiting on the delivery of an SZ691 which will hopefully be here tomorrow and then I will keep the better of the two and pass the other one to a minion :D

XPS M1330 seems to be a slightly better speced laptop overall but Dell are struggling to keep customers so the Sony may be the better option at the moment.

It's really funny/sad actually. Dell finally comes out with a great design and feature set, everyone is back on board with Dell, and they completely alienate everyone yet again with these shipping delays and quality issues. :D
