Anybody know what the solution is to the toshiba bluetooth driver that keeps causing explorer errors? I have a VGN-SZ660N. Toshiba makes a update to the driver, but it is only for Toshia brands. As of now I do not know of a solution to this problem from Sony.

I think the SZ6 come with the Widcomm Bluetooth, not Toshiba.

My bad. If you don't use the bluetooth, you can turn it off.

Yes. Not IE. It says bluetooth driver caused explorer error, due to compatibility. Then it gives a link to that problem response blog.

i see. ive never had error such as this on 32bit nor 64bit vista. are you using 32 bit vista w/ bluetooth driver v5.10.10.0? i used bluetooth driver v5.10.03.1 on 32bit vista(from my vgn-sz440 model vaio) and now i use v5.10.14.4 for 64bit vista.

I'm not sure which version it is. It is 32 bit, and it is the original bluetooth that shipped with the computer.

i stand corrected..i got this error today. looks like it has something to do w/ DEP(data execution prevention) and bluetooth. i actually had my bluetooth manager(the icon that starts up) disabled earlier today but now have enabled that startup program again. you can find out the version of your program by right-clicking the bluetooth manager(by the clock) and pressing 'about'. its probably the v5.10.10.0 version according to sony eSupport driver site. why not try downloading and installing the fix patch 1 on site you provided? this could possibly fix the issue.

I did that. The fix patch works, but after 30 days the liscense for it expires. It is for toshiba computers. For sony we are supposed to check with sony. I had this problem for over a year, and each time I called sony support, either they had no clue what to do, or they said wait for the update to be released, which by now it has been over 1 year, and no update yet. So far I have not found one sony rep with any clue about what to do. Seems like they are turning a blind eye to this. I don't think I will ever buy a Sony laptop again. This is just one example of the many problems I have had with my laptop, and with Sony support.

i see. It doesnt even look like you could buy a license from toshiba to make it a permanent patch on your sony pc. im gonna keep an eye on this..this issue hardly happens to me but i dont want it happening at all. i did go ahead and reenable the bluetooth manager so hopefully i dont see it again. my error msg stated the tosbi..dll wasnt loaded because i made it not startup. seems that it happens to you a lot. check your version to be sure and we'll try to update your driver. ill also look at the patch itself.

Well, it happened again. I got the error message from windows saying there is a compatibility problem with bluetooth driver, and giving me the link to the problem response blog. I don't know how this happened. Before I had uninstalled all bluetooth drivers. Then a bluetooth driver automatically installed itself, dated: 4/24/2007, version 5.0.1624.0, so I disabled it. Then I disabled bluetooth from the services tab in msconfig, and checked that there was no bluetooth in startup. I even turned of wireless, so no bluetooth was on. And even upgraded to SP2. Yet I got the same error today, which usually happens when I remove my MP3 player after clicking remove on the safely remove hardware icon.

I remember in windows update there was an optional update of bluetooth. So a few minutes ago in device manager I chose to update the driver mentioned above. The update is a toshiba bluetooth driver, dated: 12/1/2008, version: 6.0.1201.0. That is quite recent driver. But having updated this driver, caused another driver to appear, called, Bluetooth RFBUS, dated 4/23/2007, also by Toshiba, version 5.0.1623.0.

So now it remains to be seen what will happen with these drivers. I would like to use bluetooth, but I think I will just disable the drivers and turn off bluetooth.

Update: After a restart I connected and disconnected my MP3 player using safely remove hardware option, 3 times, and each time it worked witout exploere crashing. So no bluetooth error so far, tough, again, it is after a restart, and bluetooth is off and the drivers disabled.

I got a couple of explorer crashes just now, followed by the windows message about bluetooth. I don't know what else I can do. Bluetooth is off, drivers are disabled, and not showing in the device manager because bluetooth is off, and no bluetooth events in startup or services tab are enabled or running.

This is Sony's fault. Because at first when I got this error I installed the Toshiba update that expires after 30 days and it solved the problem. Sony should make a patch for this but for some reson they have not. I talked to countless support reps and customer service and most try to weazel their way out of doing their job or say wait for sony to make an update. It's been over one year, and in some forums I see this problem has been reported 2 years ago. That is too long to go without a bluetooth and have to deal with constant crashes for an expensive Sony vaio.

were you getting this error before you uninstalled and disabled the original toshiba bluetooth driver for sz650n v5.10.10.0, dated 8/9/2007 and located here? http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNSZ650N&upd_id=2877&os_id=29

i would reenable all things that have been disabled, restart, and see if still happening. Next, i would take steps to uninstall it out of control panel or even the device manager(right click bluetooth, uninstall driver, and delete all files so it doesnt auto reinstall after a restart of pc) there are some nagging things like this on 32 bit vista..had an issue w/ nero .dll and vista but fault was on nero. when i upgraded to 64bit...all is well between the two. as i said in a previous post, my windows explorer crashed only when i had the bluetooth manager startup file disabled in msconfig. no issues since...it doesnt like that apparently.

I was getting this error with the original bluetooth driver, not disabled. I don't think reenabling all the things that have been disabled will fix it, but will try that just in case. But again, this is a known, documented issue that the driver manufacturer, Toshiba, made an update for, but only made it availabe to Toshiba computers. Sony, which uses this driver, does not have an update, and after talking to many support reps they were not able to provide a solution.

That is why I'm trying to disable the bluetooth, but for some reason disabling the drivers is not enough to stop them from causing the error. Even after deleting the driver from device manager, the bluetooth driver automaically reinstals upon startup. How do I delete the driver and keep it from reinstalling upon startup?

true. when uninstalling the bluetooth driver from device manager...i guess its not giving you the prompt to also delete the driver permanantly. can you uninstall and also disable the bluetooth usb controller and rfcomm before restarting the laptop?

I'm not sure. I tried disabling all bluetooth drivers, and then turning off the wireless switch, which also turns off bluetooth. Then it shows no bluetooth device in the device manager. But still, I got the error.

i havent run across this error in recent days and i always use my explorer just to test it out. then again, i wiped my laptop w/ clean windows shortly after recieving all the bloatware on it. the error details should point to the file causing this(which is some type of bluetooth file) and maybe you can find and delete it. you could also backup all your data and install everything back over. it doesnt seem that sony will fix this.

Search the sony forum for Widcomm drivers and SZ series notebooks. I used the Widcomm driver for quite a while with absolutely no probs. The last version I used was 5.0.1.1200

    Hi DZ2K;

I have an SZ440 as well and just installed Win7/64. I have a problem that you seem to have overcome. After installation, the system uses the standard VGA drivers and I don't have all the video modes I need. I have not found a new driver that will install and my driver will not update. Do you have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.
