    Hello

I just bought a new Sony S series.

    Model is VPCSB1V9E: VPCSB1V9E (VPCSB1V9E, VPCSB1V9E/B.CEK) : Technical Specifications : VAIO & computing : Sony

I'm having issues with the touchpad.

I can be moving the mouse cursor across then screen and it will just stop for a second or two.

    or

The cursor will move vertically (like it's snapping) but not horizontally.

    or

The cursor will suddenly move to the other side of the screen.

I really don't know if it's hardware or the Windows 7 software. I have checked Sony's site and I have the latest Alps driver installed for the touchpad.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I really, really want to keep the laptop. The build quality on this thing really is great. Compared to my Samsung X360, the build quality difference is like night and day. The keyboard is absolutely superb.

Just to prove I do indeed own the notebook and I'm not trolling, here she is charging up:

sound similiar to a problem i have exeprienced with my SZ.
it seemed that the aluminum palmrest shorted the trackpad under various conditions.
dismantling the trackpad and putting some insulation tape between the trackpad and the palm rest fixed the problem.

but since you probably still have warranty, I recommend to call SONY.

Okay what you want to do is right click the synaptics icon in your taskbar and choose mood pad in one of the drop down menus... then see if it's registering clicks. Then call sony... Here's to save you time = go and install malwarebytes (<-- running that actually is a step they have to go through, at least for me) but when i told him i always run it and have it already installed, it saved me an hour of waiting for it to run... then they'll run a ton of other tests etc... annoying, i know.

I'm actually experiencing the same thing on my Vaio Z... got the palmrest replaced a month ago (bought it may of 2010) but because they replace the palmrest/touchpad assembly i got 3 extra months of warranty on that... and yeah my touchpad is pretty much useless... so time to call in sony... I think it's the cable that's gone bad... I already placed some clear protector skin on my palmrest so i'd hate to have that be the problem...
