Hello friends..
I have Sony VAIO VGN-FW590 notebook, got it few months ago through Sony Style online deals. Everything is working fine except a touchpad problem. I can use my touchpad for moving the cursor across the screen without any problem, but when I want to click on a link, it just jumps to other place on the screen. Whenever I try to write something, cursor suddenly jumps to another line and then I have to reposition the cursor and start typing again . I think there might be a problem with the touchpad, but I am really not sure. Does anyone have the same problem? Need your help to fix it.
Thanks..

I've had that happen to my Z12 recently; a restart fixed it.
Try reinstalling your Synaptics drivers. -
this is a known problem with synaptics touchpads. All Vaio Z suffer from this same problem and it occurs when you have 1 finger slightly touching the touchpad surface and you use another finger to tap. I tried every possible driver version to fix this behaviour with no success.

Another thread I read suggested there may be an issue with the body of the laptop conducting electrical charges from your palm or thumb. I figure this is a possibility with a carbon fiber or aluminum bodied version (I have carbon fiber). There's a suggestion for the SZ here - http://doube.org/sztp.html - to remove the touchpad and put some insulating tape between the TP and the body, but I've just opened my VPCZ1290X and it would be a big step to then remove the palm rest (looks like you have to mess with some protective tape and "felt" (for lack of a better idea of what it is, but it's glued to the underside of the palm rest). Can anyone weigh in on this as a possibility? On my machine, at least, the touchpad performance stinks, and has this erratic behavior that alicetred describes. BTW, I tried contacting Sony about this, and they were going to set me up with an in-house tech visit, but twice I got disconnected from the Philippines and gave up (for now). They suggested I boot into safe mode, and I actually think I need to test that further to see if it really could be a driver/hardware issue (ie, that the TP won't behave erratically if it the Synaptics drivers aren't loaded). Of course, no Synaptics driver means no features, including scrolling.
