My Vaio TZ has the latest trackpad driver, but recently it has started malfunctioning.
The 'tapping' function stops working. When I reset it in the control panel [by disabling it then re-enabling it] it works OK for a few minutes then stops again.
Help!

Try reinstalling the drivers. If that doesn't work, then I would call up Sony cuz you prolly have a malfunctioning. But if resseting it in the control panel makes it work fine, then that tells me it's more of a software issue than a malfunctioning hardware component. If it was bad, then nothing, including the reset, would make it work.

Here's a little quirk I found.
When logged on under my profile, no issues.
When my wife logs on under hers, she has trackpad issues. ie spotty/no tapping.
I have it enabled under her profile but her profile is the only one with this issue. -
weird... I wonder if there is conflict with some software installed under her profile and not yours?

Same thing happened on my TX, the only solution for me was to disable the feature which disables tapping while typing. This has solved the problem for me.
Good luck. -
OK, I'll try and post back to report the results...

by any chance are you streaming ie you tube etc while this happens? cos this happens to me. i believe it is software conflict because it resolves when i open up touchpad properties and go to reconfigure the tapping function by tapping in the 'small box'.

I've had this happen occasionally with my SZ --- doing what you did (disabling / re-enabling the tapping function) seems to do the trick. No idea what it's happening, and can't really think of anything in particular that I'm doing when it does happen. It doesn't sound like my problem is happening as regularly as yours, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Out of curiosity, are you running Vista? -
I just recently had this start happening to me as well?? Along with some other issues!
