No it's not fair, your friend has the losing end of the deal. What's wrong with him?
-
He's trying to sell his laptop for 2500, mine is worth 2800 from apple i think its fair
-
I would do that in a second.
-
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
but your components are also worth much less. If anything, make sure your buddy's laptop works fine... there are a few problems with the Z's like a loose hinge and fading palmrest. Then make him sign a contract that you made the trade cuz he's going to want his Z back! -
Most definately getting a good deal from your end. DO it!
-
if hs offering that trade your CERTANTLY getting the better end of the deal.
only advice I can give is get it, wipe the drive and clean load win 7 and drivers. it will really shock you what a clean load on them will do -
Holy crap, that's not even close to equal.
-
if this question was posted in an apple forum, I'm sure the answers were to the opposite lol
-
can someone tell me the difference between z12 and z13 series? Also i just look on sonystyle my friends comp is only worth about 1400 bucks, from Sony.... I can throw my macbook on craigslist for a easy 2000, and buy a new one now i'm confused
-
His laptop can sell for 2000+ on ebay easily. The Z is a lot faster than the macbook. Make sure everything works because sony's customer service sucks.

I'm beginning to think you're a troll... -
Yeah this is laughable. Where can you get that config for $1400? lol
-
umm why would his machine sell for 2000 on ebay
http://www.sonystyle.ca/webapp/wcs/...oupId=1000883&sourceid=749547_10427842_forums
sorry i made a mistake 1420 is the total lol -
ohh, you're Canadian. that explains it.
seriously though, these START at $1800 on the US site. -
lol the irony in that... i usually drive across to the states for the better deals
-
now if someone could tell me the difference between z12 and z13?
and even knowing the value of his machine is quite a lot less, in canada at least would you still go for it? -
On the US site, the Z1290 is $2399, and that's with an i5 540, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM. The i7 would be a bit more. It looks like the MBP is about $2350 in the US, 2.66, 4GB, 500GB HDD.
-
It's all a matter of preference. I own both a Z and a macbook pro, albeit older model. The 15-inch MBP is significantly heavier than the Z. But it's also has a larger screen, larger typing area, and a much better trackpad. The Z is more of an ultraportable. The biggest difference between the two is the OS. If you love OSX then the Mac is a given. There are people in the Apple forums who will say this is not an even trade because the Z doesn't run OSX. I believe they are morons because if that's the case then what is there to compare.
I think it comes down to whether or not you want an ultraportable or a larger machine. Also, which OS you prefer. On the Mac, you can install Windows 7 but from my understanding the battery life is significantly shorter running Windows 7 on a Mac. -
The main difference I know of between the Z12 and Z13 is that the Z13 comes with TPM.
-
Sorry, but what is TPM?
-
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
There is not much difference, the VPCZ13 has a TPM module (for bitlocker encryption with Win 7 ultimate). The VPCZ13 has updated processor choices. And... in the US, better colors... I think that's the end of the differences...
Also, where did you get the $1400 price?
here's the config on SonyStyle Canada (look at the top of image for the canada flag):
Sorry for the highlight... i accidentally printscreened it while it was highlighted ><Attached Files:

-
by the looks of it you went with the Z13, i priced out the Z12... which apparently is ALOT cheaper in canada
-
the link you posted doesnt have an option for a 1080p screen that alone is around $150 upgrade
-
ok well i don't think im going to go for this deal...
-
whats your friends #?
-
If I was you, I'd be in without any hesitation. The only advantage the macbook has over the vaio is the OS, but if you dont like Windows, just try some linux distro such as Ubuntu or Linux mint and customize it to look like Mac OS.
Personally, I always think that macbooks are but an overpriced fad. -
TPM is used for far more than Bitlocker.
EFS (encrypting individual files and folders) can also use TPM, and the fingerprint reader can too. -
while this is true i always change my laptop every 2-3 months, and i've found that macbooks are the easiest to sell, and retain the most value...
had a asus few months back paid 1100 for it sold it for 400
had a 13.3 MBP paid 1400 for it sold it for 1100... -
you can't even purchase at that price!
it doesn't let you checkout! -

Trade for the Z and sell it to me for $400 in 2 months.
-
dude, is your last name Gates or Jobs or the like?
-
If you do some calculation his notebook is more than 3000$ taxes included in canada and far better than the macbook specification except or the screen size (not resolution the Sony is better with full 1920x1080). You should get it before hi changes his mind!!! But you will be with 13'' not 15'' notebook and less weight for transportation.
If you want a lighter notebook go for the trade if you use your don’t move your notebook too mush stay with the mac -
LOL that notebook is not available and the link will not let you order the z1290. Tray it
by the way that one don't have the Full HD 1920x1080 and it is 500$ more, you will end up with a notebook of 2200$ before taxes (if you can order one LOL)
.
all order for that notebook were cancelled you will never get that in Canada, Im in Canada too and I can tell you that the link you got will never let you check out ( i was one of the people trying to get that deal and ended with buying the z1390) that was a very short sale of 7 days from October 24 to October 31 thats it -
if you call them i'm pretty sure you can still get this deal?
-
try
you'll see
you can see problems that Sony passed throu to ship 50 of them and cancelled 100. go to the sonystyle facebook you'll see
Trade my macbook pro for sony Z-1290 should i do it?
