Since the Dell 1530 is getting a better price for a system that is configured better at a cheaper cost. I purchased the Sony about 2 weeks ago. Sony wouldn't budge.

Dell has 3G ram, 250GB HD and 3 year warranty versus Sony FZ290 with 200MB HD and a 2G RAM with just the 1 year warranty for around $300 less all together.

I thought Sony may offer to give a little more discount or offer and extened warranty but I was wrong. Just said I could return it if I wanted to.

I know Dell does what you are talking about, but I've rarely heard of Sony doing it unless they made a mistake.

I'd say return it (should have a 14-30 day return period) and get the 1530 if it really is that much better. Of course, you will have to wait until the 1530 is shipped to you, so you may be out a computer for some time.

    Regards,

Sonny (sony nick name) used to make high quality, (they still do at very high price) but they are no more then just a brand-name selling company now... It is very unfortunate and disappointing.

Go with Dell XPS. You'll get a machine that will suit your needs better

I was hoping they would drop price a little instead of loosing a sale. Most companies in face of the compitition would give you a break. In the past I loved Sony products but in recent years the quality has been low. This is the first Sony product I have bought in years. Seems they would perfer to make more people happy.

You use the term Sony loosely. Are you referring to SonyStyle or did you actually talk to Sony Corporate? SS usually lets you "haggle" on big-priced items if you call them before purchasing, but after the sale, it's probably not likely you'll get them to do anything. SS online is one of the worst in terms of being flexible. Forget about trying to match 3rd party competitors; they wouldn't price match me a price drop THEY did on one of their computer 1 week after I bought it from them. I had to send it back for a refund and buy it again because the price drop was that good to eat the shipping cost to send it back to them. Talk about inconvenience!

Sony are the worlds largest consumer electronics company, so they dont really care about loosing 1 or 2 sales to competitors!

And IMHO, Dell product quality doesn't hold a candle to ANY Sony product!

They will never, ever price match! Only a retailer will price match, and even then, Sony stores wont do it! Only large independant retailers!

Yes I did purchase it from SonyStyle online. Since I was within my 30 days of being able to return it I thought they might be a little more flexable. I like this laptop over the Dell anyway. Just trying to see what I can get. I have found that mos companies will deal.

They other day I called DirecTV with a problem with 3 of my old DirecTV Tivos. They sent me 3 new DirecTV DRV's (Non Tivo) for $20 each and gave me $10 off my bill for 12 months and free HBO for 6 months and Stars for 1/2 price 6 months. All I did was mention about this cable TV add that I saw. I have been with them for several years. They went out of there way to keep me as a customer. A happy one at that even.

A couple of months after I bought my Honda Pilot they had a nice price drop. I mentioned it to the dealer and they could not give me the better price but gave me a free 5 year warranty for being a good customer.

You never know if you don't try. After I got married my wife tought me to this. I never tried to hagel my during the sale and just took what they offered. Now I do more often and I'm amazed how many companies will give you a better discount even over sale prices.
