I did a search, but couldn't find this info. Sorry if it's a repost....

I've got a TX that I love, but I want to get a Privacy Filter for it. I'm in Japan for the next 7 months, and every store here has cleared their inventory of TX accessories, so no luck there. Not even the official Sony Store keeps them in stock.

I'd prefer not to order online, since I'm living in a hotel. In a country different than my credit card's billing address.

Now, to my question. The stores here sell the stock sizes for the 3M Privacy Filters. Does anyone know if trimming one of these down to size is a viable option (with a trusty straight edge and sharp exacto knife)? Or is the material too hard to cut through? Or perhaps it will fall apart if I cut an inch or two off the sides?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to NBR! :D

I found some other people commenting about trimming.

I can't figure out why, but it stuck out by alot on both sides of my screen. I have a HP Pavililion dv4000 with a 17" widescreen, but it didn't fit and it's not something you can trim. Beware if you have the same type of computer!

    From http://www.gadling.com/2007/05/29/review-3m-computer-privacy-filter/

My laptop display is only 10.6", so I had to cut the filter down to size. It's fairly easy to trim the soft plastic to the correct size, but I had some problems with my slide cutter. (You'll be able to see my horrible cutting job in the close-ups.)

Seems kind of mixed but that second link is more helpful.

Why don't you try the privacy filter for TZ VGP-FL13.

Slight difference in that the TX filters fits onto the screen + some parts of the bezel, there are holes for the latching mechanism on the bezel.
The TZ filters are probably fitting the screen only.

My comments based on observation of pictures only, better check out real thing yourself.
Should be available at stores like Yodobashi Camera or Bic Camera. These shops open till quite late (2200H) in tokyo.

    Thanks for the responses....

Arkit3kt: I saw those same two conflicting posts, when I was googling for my answers. One said it's easy, one said it's impossible. ~shrug~

keru: I thought the same thing, based on the pictures on the sonystyle website. I have found the TZ filters at both Yodobashi and Bic's, but I don't want to buy the product to find out if it fits. My Japanese is horrible, and I haven't been able to find anyone with English good enough to help out.

But, again, thanks for the ideas. I may have to just order one online.

    Cheers,
    Sillisquid.
