I recently did a clean install of Windows 8 on my Sony VAIO VPCSA3AFX, and am trying to reinstall the correct drivers to get the brightness fn keys and speed/stamina switch working but I can't manage to install the Sony Firmware Extension Parser. I followed the guide in the owner's thread:
But when I go into Device Manager and try to update the driver, I get an error message saying that Windows could not find the driver software for the unknown device even though I directed it to where I saved the file. I tried restarting the laptop, but it still shows up as an unknown device. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I'm close to just restoring Windows 7

Failing a solution to this, is there a software switch that I can employ to change between the discrete and integrated GPU?
EDIT: Would disabling the discrete graphics card in device manager effectively change it to stamina mood, and vice versa for speed mode? -
Didn't check it, but maybe you can disable the ati GPU in the bios settings, although this workaround would not be very comfortable... -
I have actually found a solution to this problem. Following your step-by-step instructions, i had a problem with installing Sony Firmware Extension Parser. It installs, it says it's installed and ok, but when you check your device manager, there's still one unknown device. Solution is next: Go to C:\Users\*Your user*\AppData\Local\Temp ... Delete everything here, then start installing the parser. A new folder will appear (my was named GLF1926) , that's the parser files. Copy that somewhere else. Finish parser install, then go to Device Manager, update driver software to the unknown device then choose "Browse my computer for driver software". Point to the folder that you saved, click next, and the Windows 8 will finish the job. After installing this, and newest intel VGA drivers, i got Graphic icon for Stamina / Speed button and now disabling/enabling the touch-pad works. If anyone has any more questions please do ask. I also had to reinstall AMD video driver after installing intel video driver, intel kills the driver installed for my Radeon HD 6xxx, installs microsoft wddm 1.2 driver instead with wrong card detected (HD 7xxx). Done on my Sony Vaio VPCSB1S1E and Windows 8 Pro upgrade, clean install.

Hi, I was viewing your solution and did the same for my vaio
slv24127clb desktop but there are two devices that are not recognized:
1) Dispositivo base del sistema: Device PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E232&SUBSYS_9097104D&REV_06\4&22729173&0&01E1 (it appears in devices and printers, it is the VAIO computer itself).
2) Dispositivo desconocido: information I know: located at: Controladora LPC de chipset Intel(R) HM76 Express - 1E59 it is the ricoh driver? but it is still not recognized.
Any idea?
