The Sony Vaio TZ is the winner of the Best Notebook 2007!
Maybe I must not wait untill the next generation of TZ...![]()

I agree! The TZ is awesome - probably doesn't satisfy most users & I would never buy it, but as far as innovation and technology, probably one of the better notebooks out there.
-
And this is not the only award!
4th place at the design and 2nd of Best 2007!
I agree totally with these awards!
Jack, are also debating to buy it now or wait the next refresh eh? Welcome to the club!
-
comon no sony employees here to give us the inside scoop?...
-
They had reviewed two TZ models, a lower end HDD and higher end SSD model, funny the lower end model was the winner.
-
The final scores are based on Features, Performance and Value. The performance improvement of higher end SSD model doesn't justify the cost increase among most potential TZ users.
Honestly, I think Asus Eee PC should be #1 since it complete rewrote the "possibilities" and introduce a new class. Its an invention on its own while other notebooks are just refining the existing tech. -
This is just a speculation: I wonder how the future will be with regard to the fabulous form factor that the Vaio TZ has. There will certainly be more models of the TZ to come during the winter. But trying to look (speculatively) ahead: What will the next name in the T series be? There has been TR, T, TX and now at last TZ, and that Z is the last letter in the alphabet. Will the form factor of the T series be named with another letter, and does this have any implications of the plans of future models from Sony with this (or quite similar) form factor?
My main point, however, is of course not the name - but rather a wonder about what design the next version of Sony's smallest sub-laptop will have. With the TZ, Sony has managed to create a very stylish computer, and I hope the future machines also will have options with regard to different colors and specs.
A little side note to psun786's post about the Eee: The keyboard of the Eee totally misses a crucial point, namely that the arrow keys and the right shift key is so clumsy located together, that one far too easily will misprint: Hitting the arrow up key instead of the intended right shift key. This is, by the way, a very common design flaw of many keyboards nowadays. -
Who knows what the next name will be? It went from TR to T to TX and now TZ. All I can say is it'll probably start with "T".
And actually, the TR that came out in 2003 was the larger sucessor to the discontinued C1/Picturebook series (last model came out 2002) which first had the MotionEye webcam that the TR took.
The TZ combines aspects from Sony's past notebooks, like
the keyboard and power button placement from the X505
and multimedia buttons, 11.1" screen and AV Mode/Buttons from the TX.
I'm sure the next T will combine aspects from its more recent notebooks, but only they know. Nobody predicted that they would make an option to replace the DVD drive in the TZ with a 2.5" HDD. -
As always, very interesting thoughts from rahulnirmal, this time some reflections about some aspects of the history of the T series.
I am aware of this is an issue that has been treated before, but again: Santa Rosa: What about it? Would it make any difference for an "light" user (Word, and other "light" programmes)? How would battery time and fan noise be affected by Santa Rosa? Are there other aspects of importance for an average user? And at last but not least: When will Santa Rosa be included in the TZ format, given its demands, voltage and so forth? -
I had an SRX87 and than I bought a TR3A. The SRX was the first ultraportable with the 10.6" screen / form factor but it had an external dvd player. Now I have a SZ series but all this reading about the TZ has me wanting both.
-
I love the TZ series too.
Ever since I got TZ, I've abandon my SZ. -
The TZ is really a great machine:
Surprisingly zippy
Incredible battery life
Its just so light!!
For me, its all about portability. Combining great battery life into a small form means I can chuck the TZ in my backpack and have it anywhere. Now that is what mobile computing is all about! -
Exactly, same thoughts here!
Can an expert on ultraportables rispond these questions?
