I tried to install some of the drivers from the new Z22 onto my Z21.

    1) The Notebook Utilities package refused to install because the units were different.

    2) The Vaio Update install succeeded and then blew up each time I tried to run it.

I reverted the system back to a safe point and have given up going any further here.

    Oooh, new NB utilities. yea

You can use Universal Extractor to decompress the installer. You can then run the install package without the machine check. It's easier than changing the number in the model.txt and locking the file, IMO. Works for most of the install packages.

I'll try the integration sometime tonight. I'm interested to see if they changed the keyboard backlight options. Really want the damn lights on all the time like on the Z1

    EDIT:
Probably don't want to install this until the rest of the stuff shows up. Everything is tightly aligned with the VAIO Event Service and it isn't in the utility package.

    Z21:
    Battery Checker 4.5.0.02140
    VAIO® Control Center 4.5.0.04280
    VAIO Event Service 5.5.0.06100
    VAIO Power Management 5.4.0.04280

    Z22:
    Battery Checker 4.6.0.05310
    VAIO® Control Center 5.0.0.08051
    VAIO Power Management 5.5.0.05310

The event service bits are missing in the Z22 packaage. Got to love Sony for driver consistency

Inside the installer; no Event Service bits (VES2):

EDIT 2: The VES bits may be with the VCC installer (Control Center), but I'll have to install to confirm. Sony's install packages are so unpredictable

Yeah, I was hoping that at least the Vaio Update program would work since it only references the Location Utility, which is the same version in each case.

Installed the utilities. I extracted and ran each from their respective folders.

    Did them in this order:
    VPM - Power management stuffs
    BC - ISB utility
VCC - Control Center with Event Services

The VPM and BC installers uninstall the old version on the first run. Run it again to install the newer versions.

Everything seemed to take, resetting all the VCC options to defaults. Nothing is broke, but I'm not seeing anything different either.

    meh

That's too bad. Hardly worth the effort. I may not bother unless you find something we can't live without.
