As soon as Win8 RTM came out, I installed it using some of the Win7 drivers, and some unofficial video card drivers, and everything actually worked relatively fine for a while (including the docking station), until it started becoming very unstable. Along the way, I had a hard drive failure, had to re-install everything, and Win8 drivers by Sony were out by then for my VPCZ2190X: Sony eSupport - VPCZ2190X - Support.
My first attempt to do a clean install and install those drivers, was an utter failure. I tried to combine those drivers with unofficial video drivers (since I can't find official ones), and everything was a mess. So I just decided to give up making the docking station work, and just install Win8 and use the integrated graphics (I need Win8 for development). But some of those drivers won't even install, whereas some others just wreak havoc everywhere! The primary example of that is the battery checker, which just pops a message saying my battery is incompatible blah blah blah and it won't go away. So I just format again, skip the battery checker, install a minimal set of drivers to get things up and running, and now, the VAIO Control Center, does not include a setting for configuring the battery threshold anymore. I tried to overwrite things with the Win7 version of the Control Center, which wouldn't even install because of a newer version of VAIO Power Management being already installed (I can't figure out how to remove it), then I tried to install back the Win8 one, and that now crashes on launch (not that it was useful for me anyway without the battery care function).
Tomorrow I am flying for too long (!), and I don't want both of my batteries stuck at 50% :/ Can anyone help? Did any of you get battery care running on Win8? If it was with using the Win7 drivers, do you know how I can remove the Win8 ones, if I have already installed them?
Trying to make Z2 work on Win8 is making me feel stupid!
