I spilled some orange juice onto my SZ.
Repair costs are too high, and I happen to be in Japan right now, so I've decided to move on to another SZ.
Unlike in Canada, here I'm given various hardware options for the laptop.
I wonder if a stronger CPU consumes more power than a weaker one?
i.e. does a 2.16GHz duo core eat up more electricity than a 1.83GHz?
Also, we Sony users all know how 'exclusive' Sony products are - such as memory card adaptability. Does anyone know if Sony laptops have memory card slots for the standard mem card used by other digicams?
Thanks.

Ouch, sorry to hear that.
I'm quite happy with my 1.83. Even if the 2.16 doesn't drain that much battery (which I think it would), it's not worth paying the difference. If you want to get a better CPU, just get a 2.0 which isn't top end so wont cost that much and I'm sure you won't feel the difference in battery consumption
(nor with performance actually). This way you would have gotten a better machine than the one you spilled juice on.
You can get a card reader that fits on the memory card slot and read regular mmc or sd cards. Not sure where to buy them though, they usually come with sony ericsson phones. Try visiting an outlet, or shop for sony ericsson accessories online.
If you consider selling the machine you have for scrap, please pm me.
Thank you. -
Officially the 2.16ghz does not consume more power. However, if they run at the same voltage I cannot see how that is possible. If I overclock my CPU without upping the voltage I still see a power and heat increase. Intel probably just quote them as having the same power because they are so close to each other, and are essentially the same CPU with a different clock.

The Voltage isn't the problem.
I am pretty sure that the 2.16 consumes more energy, because it is getting hotter, too.
So, where does this heat come from? Exactly, from the currency. -
I'm gonna go order my new SZ today.
Guess I'll just go with 1.83GHz instead, since it doesn't really
make much difference if I'm just using the computer for not-so-intensive
programs.
There is a slot on the right side of the SZ series for some kinda of card.
I suppose that is the memory card adaptor for the non-sony digicam memory cards?
Pls enlighten me cuz I haven't used that before.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that the price for using a 2.16 is twice the price for using a 1.83 (duo-core CPU price)..
Two general questions regarding SZ series
