When I go to the Japanese website to custom order one and translate it into English, I see this one notice.

    * When "2.5 types HDD approximately 160GB" are selected, you cannot use "AV mode".

I think thats interesting and unfair, you can't use the AV mode at all? Because the newer software now lets you view photos and music from the hard drive so I dunno why they'd disable it for those without an optical drive.
That gives me a bit hope that you can later on switch the optical drive and hard drive since its unfair to leave that functionality out for those who pick the 160 gb hard drive.

Also, since right now the SSD adds so much to the cost of the system, what if I decided to use these Lexar Expresscard SSDs I've seen lately. Like on Ebay, I see an 8 gig version for only $80. I've heard of the complaint that their pretty slow but what about when they mature, can they be the same as the normal SSD drives we're so excited about?

It would mess the software up because you wouldn't have a DVD drive to play CDs or DVDs from, plus they would need to rewrite the software to recognize 2 hard disks.

It was probably too much work for them to rewrite the software, especially for a feature so rarely used on a business machine such as this.

Is this the Japanese Sony site you are talking about? How are you able to translate it in to English? Cos i am unable to do so. Do they deliver internationally?

Yes, I looked at the Japanese website and I went to altavista.com and use the Babel Fish Translation feature. I'm afraid they don't ship internationally.
