    1. Does the headphone/microphone jack support iPhone-compatible headsets? ie. does the mic work as well?

    2. What's the highest resolution the HDMI port supports? Any way to use 2560x1440 monitors when I won't have the dock?

    Thanks...

Without the PMD, the SVZ/Z2 is powerful and fast, but not very versatile. If Sony had decided to use a mini display port to hitchhike the Lightpeak to, like the A-company, you would have a high res monitor option right from the base computer. But Sony chose to have their proprietary/non-Thunderbolt-compatible Lightpeak implementation ride on a USB3 port, which may have been the better choice for most people because you need the second USB3 on the road but when you want to plug into a high res monitor you're more likely to be in your home/office replete with docs and peripherals including the lowly PMD.

The Z2 has VGA and HDMI. The same on the PMD! You can connect I think with a hacked .inf file a high resolution TFT with HDMI!

The Z2 supports on VGA and HDMI natively 1920*1080 without PMD.

I have the PMD because I have just to put in one cable and 2 tft, mouse and keyboard, printer etc are connected.

But when you do not want to game I think the PMD isn´needed ;)

On 1080p output you don't need the PMD. For gaming, beyond what the HD4000 can handle, you do.

Different model numbers always have differences. Google the two and you'll get Sony's spec sheets.

The Newegg deal looks pretty good, considering it's only $299 more for the PMD with Blu-ray burner than the same specs without the PMD and separately that PMD sells for more like $699.

On the other hand, last week Sony was selling the Z2 version of that combo for $1,500. If I were you I would check the Sony Outlet before making this purchase. True, the quad core IB cpu and Intell HD4000 are both better than their equivalents in the Z2, but not $800 better, IMO. The PMD is identical and the chassis of the computer is identical. That's a lot of money to pay for a little stronger cpu and integrated graphics. If money is not an issue for you, sure, get the newest.
