I've been looking to buy a Sony Vaio TX, but need XPP instead of Vista.

Office Depot has the TXN17 P/B for $1,699.00. It has the solo 1.2 CPU and 2GB of RAM.

I'm using it for travel, surfing, MS Office and remote desktop.

This is a good deal, right?

That is a good deal if you ask me, but have you checked out the TX yourself, are you comfortable with the screen/keyboard size? Check one out in person yourself because many quickly get turned off by ultraportables by them being too small.
    Otherwise, its good.

Yes, I am comfortable with the size of the screen. I'm a bit concerned that it won't be fast enough for me b/c I'm a bit of a speed freak. The models in the stores are using Vista and are really slow, but I think it will run faster with XP, right? Thanks.

It's not a good deal, it's a STEAL! I paid $2000 for mine with only 1 GB of memory.

Microsoft Office works great. And the small screen is no big deal when using Word or Excel, just set the zoom factor to 150% and then everything looks perfectly easy to read.

In programs that don't zoom, the zoom button (Fn-F10) on the computer helps, but then the screen gets kind of fuzzy looking.

And yes, XP works much better with this computer than Vista. Vista sucks.

Buy a Bluetooth mouse with it. No cables. The computer will automatically find the mouse when you turn on the mouse.

I got one from Office Depot. It's a great deal but be advised you will have to pay tax. If you want Vista, clean install it. It speeds it up considerably and is on par with XP without all the junkware Sony installs. It will boot in about 90 seconds and returns from sleep almost instantly. The only hardware that I could not get to work was the WWAN an I wasn't going to pay for that anyway.
