I've basically decided to purchase the TZ, and would like to get an SSD>32GB. Is the TZ195 on Amazon my only option? Anyone know if/when SonyStyle or any other resellers will sell the TZ with a 48G or 64G SSD?

(one would hope that they'd look to match the Toshiba R500 which comes with a 64G SSD for around the same price...)

Unfortunately, PriceJapan and not even the Japanese sonystyle page have the 48G SSD. The only one I found other than Amazon were the ones on EBay, and I wasn't even considering those, as I'm skeptical about buying such an expensive machine that hasn't even come out yet on EBay.

I just read the entry, and the seller seems legit (and even explains the photos since the laptop is in a sealed box), and it is at a $400 discount to Amazon, but I do like having a 30-day return period, and the small chance that this is a fraud multiplied by $3000 would give me pause...

    Any options other than EBay?

Why dont you buy a piece of crap-old-refurbhished laptop to take out and keep the beautiful tz? I would never want to get rid of this thing... not until sony comes out with another super awesome cool laptop. :D

because I only use the laptop during work, I already have a desktop at home which I don't use as it is, so I hate to have an expensive piece of equipment and not use it.

Good question -- I have a TZ190N/B and love it (like the other TZ owners say) BUT..... when you've been accustomed to HDD in the 100G range it is IMHO impossible to get used to 32G -- too limited, especially since Vista and Sony use up 2/3 or more of it. I managed to get my C drive headroom to 10G out of the ~30 on the SSD, but that's by using a couple memory cards (an 8G duopro and and 8G SDHC) to hold much of my installed software and my data files. Thought that would be cool -- spreading out my risk -- but it causes a lot of memory swapping that slows the machine down. So I'm looking for a 64G replacement like others. But I'm really inclined to keep my TZ until there's something that is really BETTER!

well hopefully TZ195 do come out on october 5th like what stated on amazon. ive been holding on TZ190 ever since i heard bout it. 32GB is just too little. 48GB is not much either but i'll get 48GB over 32GB anytime (should cost a lil bit more - perhaps 100?)

BTW, full installation of Vista and Office 2007. How much space will it take? 15GB?

i'm thinking of buying a mid-range TZ in Australia or a top-of-the-range SZ.
The mid range one doesnt have SSD which is really my major concern.
I know to not expect performance from an ultraportable, but the TZ is expensive so i really dont want to be disappointed by an incredibly slow hard drive.

I'd also love to be able to put sim city 4 on it but dont even know if it would even be plausible :D

Sim City 4 is fairly old, so I'd expect it to run on a TZ. I don't have a copy to test though, sorry.

Amazon's price for the TZ195N is $3400 vs $3000 for the TZ190N -- $400 for 16G seems about right when you look at Dell's $900 premium for a 64G SSD compared to their 120G 5400rpm HDD. We' d all like larger SSD but right now supply vs demand is keeping prices very high.

I have Vista Business and Office 2007 on my TZ190N and have gotten rid of the bloatware and some of the Vaio utilities -- I've also moved the recovery partition to my 8G SDHC -- my free space on my 32G SSD runs 10-12G. I should point out that I'm using an 8G duopro card for most of my other installed software, an 8G SDHC for my data files and and 8G ExpressCard with ReadyBoost activated and for some backup files. Not sure how much this really frees up on my 32G SSD but it has made it a lot more responsive, except when it begins memory swapping with the other cards looking for something... I still have to find ways to refine this arrgt. Bottom line, though, I think you'll find the 32G SSD is something you can live with if you're careful on what you put on it -- won't hold a lot of audio/video files! :)

Right now I have office, messenger, limewire, itunes, avg antivirus, quicktime, k-lite codec packs, yahoo widgets, and some other minor stuff installed. And I have 21gb left off my 32gb SSD. I bought a 8gb memory stick and been super happy with it, I have some movies and lots of mp3 and pictures in there, only using 4.5gb. so Im its not little at all. at least for me.

well that's good then. i never intend to put any music/movies on this laptop. it's going to be purely for work. i might pick up external HDD. of course i wont plug it in all the time, just occasionally. then 32GB should be suffice!

I have the same feelings about my TZ191 premium carbon
..sorry to say I am so very attached to the beauty of it and not the functions of it ...yet
I just did a short bit of travel and cringed every time I had to put it through the security.. maybe I wish I could've waited for an improved or greater capacity SSD ..but I didn't..

Can't you use the ssd to just run the programs and the extra 160g to store ur files, like movies, they are both internal... aren't they?

The 160gb hard drive option is only available for the Japanese TZ customizable models, we're talking about the TZ195, an upcoming North American model.
