I can burn normal CDs fine.

But when I insert a DVD and try to burn it says Waiting for the drive to become ready and it stays like that forever.

Also, if I go to disc info it says No disc is inserted

I have tried 2 different brands of DVDs, currently using SONY DVD -R :(

I have only burned on DVD before which was when I first got the laptop.

Do you think it's a problem with my drive? or do you think I should get a 3rd brand of DVD-Rs and try?

    Currently usnig firmware version 1.51

    Nero 7 Premium 7.10.1.2

    Vista Business SP1

    NOD32 v3

You could try coolguy's suggestion but if that doesn't work (like it did with my UJ-850s) it is time to replace the drive itself. The mat****a drives are the worst optical drives on the market today. I got rid of mine and replaced it with a samsung a few months back with no problems. :)

Panasonic generally make good products but the Matsh!ta optical drives have earned themselves an undesirable reputation for unreliability. Why Sony persist in bundling these burners in their notebooks is one of life's mysteries considering that Sony burners have a much better reputation for reliability.

Before you take it in check that the drive is clean and free of dust.

I can't believe this!!!!!! IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!

I NEVER thought of cleaning the lens since it reads DVDs and burns CDs fine.....it was only when I insert a DVD.....it doesn't even give me the autoplay options like a blank DVD was inserted like in the pats days!

Now I just quickly cleaned the lens with a cotton bud and it works lie a charm!!! Thanks for this great suggestion! Saves me alot of work of claimig warranty!!

Sometimes someone suggests the simplest things that actually work!
