I have an odd problem with the fingerprint reader on the TZ90. On AC power the fingerprint reader works fine. I can log on to vista, register pages, enroll fingerprints and bring up UPEK protector suite by swiping. However when I switch to battery power, I cannot log on, register pages, or open UPEK. However fingerprint enrollment still works on battery power so it's not like the fingerprint reader was deactivated to save power. (I did not activate the option to disable the fingerprint reader to save power under system devices so that is not an issue.) I'm not sure what is causing the issue. The drivers and UPEK protector suite ql are up to date. Anyone else having the same issue or have any suggestions? Thanks.

Try toggling the power saver option. If that fails, check bios. If that fails, try a full system reload.

You were probably fiddling around in power management and turned off the fingerprint reader.
Launch the sony power management tool and look in there for the onbattery fingerprint reader setting. -
The fingerprint reader isnt off since it will still enroll prints on battery power. When on battery power I disabled power management so nothing should be turned off. I'll look into the bios. I defintely do not want to do a full system reload.

Hi - I just got the TZ190 and had the same problem. Tho now I can seem to get it to work in battery mode (not sure why, it just started working) tho recognition is both spotty and with a low success rate. very weird. I think the fingerprint read is very sensitive to power sources.

So you got the fingerprint reader is working on battery power? I'm still having the same issue but haven't had time to solve it. Was the fingerprint reader acting like that right out of the box or did you do a clean install and then the problem showed up. I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate so I'm wondering if something happened when reinstalling the drivers.

I just unplugged my adapter and the reader is still working properly. I tried locking the computer and logging back in and it worked fine.. I checked out the advanced power options and I don't see any settings for turning off the fingerprint reader either...
a strange problem you have. -
not sure when the problem started as i only recently started i did a clean fairly early on to free up the recovery partition but that was it. really strange. and yes, i can get it to work in control panel.

just wondering if the OP got this issue resolved. i'm having the exact same problem. only difference with my issue is that on battery, i sometimes get a successful read if i hold down the shift key when i swipe.
