So I'm trying to get a CTO. For me, the student discount of 7% gets almost completely cancelled by 6% sales tax. I talked to a rep over the phone and the most they were willing to do was 10% (but again there's still the 6% sales tax). Anyone manage higher or have them throw in something extra?
Here's what I was looking at:
i5-540m (well it's not like I can order the i7 anymore, right?)
Windows 7 Pro w/Fresh Start (+$50)
256GB SSD (+$400)
4GB RAM
Silver
DVD Drive
No WWAN
Large Capacity Battery (+$100)
3 year warranty with accidental damage protection (+$400)
-
Warranty + Accessory (or two) should net 15%.
-
no idea, you can plead with them or maybe find a dift company to use
-
thanks for the reply..i was thinking about getting the dock or an extra battery. may just get (one) them if that's what it takes to bounce the 10% to 15% instead of pushing it off to buy either of them later.
-
I got the three year warranty with accidental, a large capacity battery, and the VIP suite (for LoJack), and got 15%.

I found a new Z online at the SonyStyle Outlet for a 20% discount using this code: OUTLETVAIO20X. I paid $3,160 for the following specs:
• Processor : Intel® Core™ i7-620M processor (2.66GHz)
• 1600 x 900 display
• Memory : 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3-SDRAM-1066
• Hard Drive : 512GB (256GBx2) Solid State Drive with RAID 0 Technology
• Optical Disc Drive : Blu-ray Disc™ Player/Burner
• Battery : Standard Capacity Battery
• Wireless Wide Area Network : No Mobile Broadband Built-In
• Operating System : Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit
• Software Optimization : Fresh Start
• Software : No additional Office Software
I think I got a great deal, but I'm curious why a brand new Z was listed on the outlet as a clearance item. Any ideas? By the way, I'm expecting delivery sometime this week. -
i think sometimes when people order them and return them without opening, that's what they do. pretty sure lenovo operates that way. btw thats a steal awesome job! -
Congrats, that's some sweet deal. I saw the coupon and then checked out the outlet yesterday morning and did not see this configuration -- must have been removed already after you bought it. There are still a whole lot of Z890 left, though.

I got 15% off when I ordered mine in February. I ordered the 3 year on-site extended warranty with my purchase. Considering it was a pre-order basis then, I was somewhat surprised to receive that large of a discount, but happy none-the-less.

Hey FrinkTL how did you get a metal mosaic lid? is that a color?
-
The following link is how FrinkTL got his (currently the "only" way other than the "physical" Sony Style store in the U.S. market):

Good luck. -
thanks speed.
talked to the online agent today they said confirmed 15% but they said that's only if you get the warranty and 2 accessories...so if you don't want any i guess just go for whatever is cheapest and it should count. -
-
You can always sell the accessories that you don't want on eBay or even on the NBR MarketPlace.
Good luck. -
What's the highest Bing Cashback you guys are getting?
-
tigerdirect has 12.3% but only one model left..
sonystyle call the rep (or talk to them online) instead of ordering straight online alone and ask for a discount -
Just wanted to confirm that I got a 15% discount on a Vaio Z when I purchased the 3 year + accidental warranty. You can get a full refund on the warranty within 60 days if you just want the discount on the laptop
.
-
hey nelsokelso did they make you buy any accessories too?
-
no accessories... I didn't need any of them so i simply said such. The rep will have to submit a request to a supervisor to get the laptop and warranty only for the discount. Mine was accepted. Just be polite and firm.
-
I'm thinking about buying a Vaio Z with i5 540 and 256 Gb SSD, everything else just basic.. So the best is just to call, be polite, and ask what discount they can give me? Then say that I will not use these accessories and ask if it's possible to get the discount anyway?
Then after getting the laptop, call in and ask for a full refund of the extended warranty (within 60 days)? Is that correct?
And... anyone more then me who are unable to reach the "shop series" page of the Vaio Z since this morning? Update on the way? Dunno?
Thanks. -
please dont get the warranty for the discount and then get a refund on the warranty. i actually do want the warranty (and the discount!) but don't want to buy any accessories right now. there are only a handful of people operating the phone lines.
-
you're correct.. one shouldn't exploit their generosity too much right?
