I just installed a USB 3.0 (2 ports) PCI Express controller onto my Z11.
Here follow some speed tests on external (Freecom) 1.5 TB HD using both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.

One big file copy USB 2.0 and USB 3.0

A lot of small files copy USB 2.0 and USB 3.0

    Nice speeds, thanks.

You have any comments on the big battery?

I do have to wonder if the slight speed increase is worth the noticeable bulk added. For me it isn't. Not a huge between 4 and 6 minutes or 2 minutes vs 45 sec.

Btw, nice speeds on the SSD,

I'm really happy with the extended battery.
I see only advantages: longer battery life and a right angle that facilitates the use of the keyboard.
The only drawback may be the slightly greater weight, but it's really negligible.

    You are right, I agree.

I use added USB 3.0 only at home in order to speed up periodical back-up (data and SSD image).

I also have the extended battery, and i get :

5 hours for watching DVD quality avi files

Up to 10 hours in power saving mode (no wifi, pretty much 0 hd activity, 16bit colour and 40 hz refresh, mostly working on the train)

I get about 4 hours and half with mostly WAN active (Bt off, Wi-Fi off, Brightness 70%, max colour and 60 Hz refresh) and making presentations connected to a a projector: Firefox navigation with streaming videos, Powerpoint slides, some light Photo editing.

Looks like the extended battery is 84WH vs 59WH for the standard battery. So about 43% more battery life than the standard.

What do you mean for big files ? Bigger than 6 GB ?

All USB 3.0 ports are backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1.

try that USB 3 with an external SSD and you will see MUCH FASTER speeds probably like 4x faster than USB 2

btw what USB 3 PCI device you using? I don't see any external power cords to it which I was told was necessary because USB 3 required more energy than USB 2 and the PCI slot couldnt supply that power solo... so there were all these power cords from other USB 2 slots used to feed it power

but i dont see that in your pictures?

Unfortunately I do not have an external SSD to test, may be in the future.

The express card is an Icy Box USB 3.0 and it has the possibilty to be connected to external power supply (supplied).

But external power is needed only with devices which are powered by USB itself.
The Freecom external USB 3.0 disk I used is itself external powered.
