    USB ports just quit working randomly

    So i left my computer this afternoon, and i came back and my mouse is no longer working. i have a sony VGN-FW463J/B and it turns out that none of my usb ports are working. i tried to like uninstall the usb controller (not sure if i did it right) and it didnt fix the problem at all. not really sure what driver to reinstall. i guess i just need some help.

    its like not detecting devices. no matter what i plug in there, it says unknown device. my ipod + my mouse. but for some reason it can read my flash drive.

    Previous FWs (I have the FW285) had a registry patch to fix this. Did not see it for you model the on the Sony Support site.
    But what you describe is exactly what the patch fixed.
    Assuming you have tried re-booting to fix the issue.
