    Hey guys,
    Kiwi (new zealander) here, ive been sortof eyeing the cw series and looking for some kindof equivalent over this way, we do seem to have a previous iteration. however sony model numbers are doing my head in, ive found something fairly decent, albeit a little out of my price range at 2.5knzd (1.7kusd);

(edit) durr need model number too, S Series apparently, Sony Vaio VPCS117GGB.
2.40 GHz Intel Core i5-520M Processor
    4GB DDR3 Ram
    500 GB Hard Drive
    13.3" widescreen display
NVIDIA GeForce 310M GPU with CUDA & 512 MB of dedicated Video RAM
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Bluetooth standard Ver. 2.1+EDR, Integrated Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b/g/Draft n

curious what the US equiv is of this, if there is one, or any way of finding out relative model numbers?

    http://www.sony.co.nz/productcategory/it-personal-computer?site=hp_en_NZ_i
the nz sony site for point of reference, im unable to find the previously mentioned laptop on it.
    cheers for any help.

New Zealand in many cases uses a different number system (the Asia-Pacific on I believe) to the system that Sony uses in the US. What CW are you looking at anyway. The problem is that the Sony New Zealand site hsa not been updated properly. To find more of the models go here: http://www.sony.co.nz/productcategory/it-personal-computer and then go to the drop down menu 'select model'.

cheers for the reply, ideally i wanted something like http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+...8159867219&skuId=9723879&st=sony cw&cp=1&lp=3
    or possibly with bluray.

i just wish it were a little more straight forward, i have better luck finding sony laptops on noelleeming/bondandbond than on the sony site :/. case in point is the cw on the sonynz site is still previous model and i figure it hasnt hit here yet, but finding laptops in stores that dont even remotely compare to the site (in the opposite direction, with i3/i5s), makes it frustrating to research.

The VAIOs in NZ are usually one step behind the States / Japan. That is, the latest 3rd gen here is an aging 2nd gen back in Japan (and the States sometimes as well). I wouldn't recommend comparing models from different regions with the Oceania versions; they are pretty different feature and price-wise, despite being the 'same generation'.

I would suggest you go to a Sony Style store and check it out there. Wellington, Auckland, and Christchurch should have stores in the CBD.

And you shouldn't count on features that are present in the States / Japan to be present in the Oceania models. An example is the Z (the aged, 5th gen); they never sold the SSD versions here, only in Singapore (and a few other select Oceania countries, and there is only 1x SSD model across the entire Oceania Z series, EVER).

And if you do decide to buy, I would recommend buying from Sony Style. I once bought a TZ from Noel Leeming, only to find out it was a return when I got home. Replaced instore, got to car and opened the new TZ, another return, just more harder to tell. In the end I asked for a refund, dished up an extra grand and bought the Z from Sony Style Newmarket.

Sony Style (hopefully) only sell their returns on Khyber Pass in Auckland so that should give you some piece of mind. Plus, Sony Style gives you an extra years worth of warranty for free (so you have 2 years instead of the usual 1).

Thanks sushi, gives me a fair bit of clarity. I bought my old sony vaio (cant even remember the model number anymore!) from noel leeming, was definitely an aged model at the time, but i didnt know any better, whole experience was rather annoying and expensive. So dont think im going back there.

I will have a look around the sony style stores, but it kindof dashes my hopes a bit because we dont really receive a price drop on all these older gen laptops.

ahwell, another excuse to get a alienware hah, guess ill keep looking.

    thanks again.
