The price point, small screen, battery life - all issues that will certainly be rasied about this new entry. But all must agree it is a very, very cool technological marvel. It is a powerhouse in an impossibly small package. I for one am blown away.

I wonder, with hundreds of thousands of happy blackberry users, why would people complain bitterly about a bigger screen with much, much better resoultion?

I suspect there will be sour grapes because the price is outside most peoples' budgets.

How many think the UX could acutally replace a laptop for basic functions? The Sony rep I spoke to said they anticipate a significant number of buyers will opt for UX micro over the TX series. What do you think?

See for yourself. This link is most impressive:

Don't get me wrong - I think the UX is nice but Sony has done it before with their U line. This is just an extension of it. My guess is that like the U70 I have, the memory is proprietary, and it will be nearly impossible to upgrade the hard drive.

It solves the issue with the U750/50/70/71 of not having a built-in keyboard, and the mouse thing looks better than the nub on the U70 (whose rubber thing could come off easily).

So I'm not sure why people think the UX is so revolutionary ... Sony's done it before, and I'm definitely not surprised at the price. The U750 was $1999.

Well, the U70(which I owned) did need a keyboard. If the 3G was EV-DO, I might have ordered one.

After speaking to several sony reps who spent several hours in training sessions with the UX, I am very taken with this micro computer.

Their reviews/personal opnions were glowing. From what I have read/seen/heard this state-of-the-art computer has set the gold standard for hand held devices.

I find the philisophy behind technolgy to be as interesting as the hardware itself. In this case, the UX's design is intended for freedom... true mobility. At just over 1lb., it is a lifeline for people who want, or need, to travel with a great deal of information while bieing connected to the world. I may be wrong, but I think this will be a huge, huge hit. Especially as an adjuct to a traditional laptop or desktop.

It's exciting to witness a sea change in how we relate and communicate with one another.

Sony Japan is actually releasing a 16GB Flash-based UX in June. The 16GB flash will replace teh 30GB HD, making the device much lighter and possibly faster? There is no change in appearance or size.
