Has anyone attempted to use Ubuntu on their Sony? I have an FZ 280 E/B and was thinking of giving it a whirl. If anyone has any guidance it will be appreciated.

    thanks!

Ubuntu and an SZ140 have gotten along quite well. All the function buttons worked, and with a little bit of following instructions out there I was able to get both the Speed and Stamina buttons working. The camera also required a bit of extra work to get going, but ended up working in the end. Go for it, just make sure you burn recovery dvd's before you try anything!

^^ He was asking about the FZ, not the SZ.

Haha, of course google will be a resource. I didn't know if anyone had any handy dandy guides as they do for other OS's. i will see what i can figure out and go from there.

    No kidding.

I was saying that VAIO's and Ubuntu get along quite well, and to give it a shot. My experience was that most everything worked with the standard install, so he should try it.

    Fair enough.

I'm a little jumpy myself with the Intel announcement, as that's going to directly affect how I do business. It'll be interesting over the next two months to see what happens to Notebooks. I'd expect stock to be tight for many manufacturers.

If ubuntu just works, why don't you install it?

Because the same thing is true with any operating system; they don't always work. Even Linux has its problems.
