Ugly SZ series

Apart from the ability of utilizing dual core processors;...

am I the only one who thinks that the SZ series are ugly in terms of design?

I think my S560 Silver is much more attractive.

 

I had to register for this forum just so I could agree with you.

I really hate that wedge shape design, but the screen and lid looks awesome.

I think it looks ok. Not the prettiest Sony, but not really ugly either. HP, Dell, Toshiba, etc. look much worse imho.

It kinda looks like the Asus W3v I think.

 

i like the looks, its a upgrade from the s series and i thonk the wv3 style looks good. ill wait till i see it in person b4 i make my final desision on it though

 

Hmm well I kinda agree, the FE Series are great looking - the whole apple style.
But for me its power / performance what counts and im looking into the premium carbon-fire casing .

 

for its i like sz more than s. It just seem sz looks better. Don't really like the look of old FS laptop, but FE is ok.

Ugly or not (I like the look and it's nice, but I still prefer the A and S series look), there's no denying the carbon fiber casing.

The SZ is supposed to share the same look at the stunningly nice looking FJ series, and somehow it doesn't quite translate over as nicely.

Sony FZ is not the ugliest nbook that I have ever seen, there are many ugliest lists in this category.I think,Sony makes superb quality machines with up-notch designes.

And If I see a FE series in Istanbul - Turkey, I am definetely going to buy it.Sony says FE - 15.4” widescreen display5 with XBRITE HiColor™ LCD technology is Sony’s most advanced display technology yet.

FE series is second in my line after the SZ series...only problem with the FE are the battery life is nothing compared to the SZ and its harder to carry around.

 

Anyone know FE series whole specifications?

 

yea, there were many different models on the Sony site, before they changed the date! argh **** sony !

for now check out a low-end model with the crap video card, the geforce FE series models are better.

SZ is nice looking if compared to compaq or ibm computers...

 

I agree. SZ isn't the prettiest but never the ugliest compared to many other notebook. I think Acer's notebook are more ugly. So is IBM....

 

Dell included..not the XPS's though

 

I prefer the old S look.. more curvy and sexy. The SZ looks more standard.. like the Asus model mentioned earlier - still it's nicer than many other notebook out there

 

I think the design could have something to do with equal weight distribution because the screen is so thin.

 

I also perfer the look of the older S series.

 

IMHO, Sony makes as ugliest laptops as anyone else with the nicest screens. Except maybe BX series. But, what do I know? I think the only laptop that deserves an award in aethestics deisign is PowerBook/MacBook. Until it's confirmed that you can install Windoz on MacBook I will be using my Compaq v2000, which is actually not a bad looking for a Compaq, but build quality sucks...

 

v2000 is ugly IMO. HP business notebook looked A LOT nicer... definitely better than IBM and still looked very professional. I had nc6230 and give it to my friend as a gift... then I regret what i've did...

 

yup HP always makes nice notebooks...bit bulky though

 

Hi there. It has been almost a year of my absence to these forums. I've been busy unfortunately. Did you buy the FE or choose something else?

I am planning to upgrade from my type S to TX series. Hopefully, but I am quite sure that I will not buy it from home (Istanbul). They cost more than double the price. I will be in the United States at the end of this month.

I plan to buy from CompUSA as I did in my previous purchases. Do you guys reccomend another place? I will be in Chigago for one day, then will fly to Denver, and then to Silverthorne.

I know this doesnt really fit into the topic, but I actually think the new AR series looks nice.

 

I think SZ looks really elegant for a laptop.

That is one of the reason why I got a SZ.

 

SZ fashion is out dated already since they first introduced it. Sony should somehow improve the design when Centrino Pro coming out this April or the SZ series will slip down from the chat

 

i dont know what other notebooks you're comparing the sz too, but its one of the best looking laptops out. maybe a black macbook/pro looks better. the hp's are nice too. but thats about it.

 

This is all personal tastes & preferences whether one likes a certain laptop or not (& in this case, it is the SZ)....

 

I would have gotten the SZ if:

it had a more powerful GPU. And if it wasn't (at the time) more expensive than my FE. I think the SZ is actually one of the best looking laptops ever made, in terms of design. When I looked at one and tested it out, I never had the keyboard issues that other people have talked about. Everything looks beautiful on the SZ IMO!

 

Forget about the size, FE is better look & design than SZ.

 

The customized SZ w/ the silver keyboard is one of the sexiest notebooks ever!!

 

I think the SZ design is gorgeous too. I like corners better than rounded edges.

 

I also feel that the previous S series looked better than the SZ, though the SZ is not ugly, but I dislike the keyboards though.

 

I personally think the SZ is nice looking. I like the carbon-fiber on the premiums. I like it better than the Black Mac's cuz it looks like "gun-metal" which I personally like over black. I noticed the black Mac's tend to fade in color on the palm rests. I don't think this will happen with the metal palm rests. I also like the wedge design because it gives it a more natural slant for typing and makes it easy to carry.

Of course everyone has their own opinion and I personally just like simplicity and a good design.

 

I have had/have a lot of laptops,never got any compliments on looks till the SZ. I agree, I like the look and design of the SZ.
Correction, some one once complimented the screen on my Compaq V2000, said it was beautiful and wide.

I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I was drawn to the SZ first for its looks, second for its innards. But to me the SZ is one of the sleekest, most beautiful laptops out there right now. The slight wedge is both elegant and usable, the thin lines, crisp edges and materials are understated, artistic and high tech at the same time. I think it's a beautiful machine with a lot of style.

 

Do some research on www.amazon.com before you land in the USA. You might be able to save some money and have it delivered to your US location. Google the model number and see who is offering the cheap price than check the vender's rating at www.resellerratings.com to see if the company is good. I have noticed lately that www.clearancecomputer.com seems to be offering very attractive pricing on Sony and other branded notebooks. As for CompUSA, I would try to avoid them as they are msrp most of the time. You can also check Best Buy. They seem aggressive lately. I bought a 52" LCD panel last month and they matched the online price, something that hasn't been done before.
