    Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21Z

    Hi,

There had been a problem with WinDVD playing back blu ray discs and Sony released an update a few few weeks back solving the issue. I downloaded the new version and tried to apply the update but nothing happened and my WinDVD stayed as the original version.

I decided to uninstall WinDVD and try a clean install. However now I'm getting the error message "You must have a previous copy of WinDVD installed to apply this update module."

Now I have no WinDVD and am unable to play some of my blu rays :(

Use Vaio Care to reinstall WinDVD then apply your update.

If the recovery partition is still on your hard drive or you made recovery disks all you have to do is download Vaio Care from the Sony website and install. If you don't have either you may have to buy WinDVD.

there is no way to reinstall it unless you reinstall everything, unless you use the zip file that one person on here extracted from the utilities disk. Ive been through this a couple times already.

Not true. I have a clean install and used the recovery disks with Vaio Care to install only the individual applications that I wanted, WinDVD included.

Do you still have the recovery partition on your drive as well ? Or did you delete the partition during your clean install ?

I deleted it when I did the clean install but after I made the recovery disks.

Thanks - I was concerned it may try to recover the recovery partition if I ran the disks. I had begun to try it once and it seemed to indicate it would.
