I see reason why you can't. Are they your files?

If you still have that folder, something SERIOUSLY went wrong with the MS Works uninstall. I would actually reinstall works and uninstall it again, that way everything would be uninstalled correctly.

how has something went wrong just cos the WORKS folder is still there?? I've seen it many times on XP with all sorts of applications! It just didnt delete the folder! Some uninstall programs even tell you that the folder was not removed...

I don't think so. Almost all applications leave some folders behind after uninstalling. I wouldn't consider reinstalling it.

Hello? Did either of you read his reply? The folder left behind was not just the Works folder, nor was it a folder where user related config info was stored (the typical kind of folder left behind after an uninstall). If it had been either of those I would not have suggested what I did. But, the folder left behind was the 1033 folder with .DLL files in it. I still maintain this is an indication that the uninstall failed. There is no way a 1033 folder should EVERY remain behind after an uninstall of Works or Office.

As he is not going to use MS Works ever in the feature, this will not be a serious issue.

well, i dont know how to make u believe this.
but its perfectly fine to delete that folder.

actually the files in 1033 folder are generally english language executables which are used by the program which has created it, which in ur case is MS WORKS.

what happened is u must have updated it after installing it and some dll's got updated n when u unnstalled, the uninstaller didnt know what to do with the updated dll's coz it cant check the dll's dependencies like if they are still being used by some program to run correctly.
so to be in safe position, it just left them as it is.

so, if there's no other folder in same directory as 1033 folder resides, it's perfectly fine to delete the folder

I have never seen an uninstall of Office or Works leave behind a 1033 folder, even one which had updates applied. (I have seen it leave behind user related files and folders, but not a 1033.)

Coolguy, because of this I don't think Works got completely uninstalled. If the 1033 folder was the only remaining artifact of that failed uninstall, I wouldn't be at all concerned. But the problem is we don't know if that was the only artifact or not. There may be registry entries lurking that may cause issues down the road. Issues that might manifest themselves when installing and running Office. That's why I suggested a reinstall and uninstall of Works. It is an easy thing to do and might very well clean up this POTENTIAL mess. I am not sure there are any issues, but I am not willing to suggest to this person that it is totally safe to IGNORE this possibility either. My suggestion will take at most 15 minutes and could help this person assure that there is no issue.
