Hi i just bought a new fz470e three days ago and it seems the supplied ac adapter cannot run the laptop under load... If i load up Half life 2 or a stress testing program without the battery in, after about 6-7 minutes the computer will instantly turn off. Also if i run it with the battery in the Charge logo on the battery meter int he task tray will rapidly appear and disappear and the battery will very slowly discharge...

So did i get a defective adapter or is sony such a skeezy corporation they actually sell 1500 dollar computers with underpowered adapters?

What is the power rating of the AC adaptor? eg 19V, 4.74A (which means 90W).

90W should be OK for anything except a 17" monster notebook so if it's 90W and giving problems then it looks to be defective. 90W usually has some headroom to allow for charging the battery while the computer is being used.

yes it is a 90w 19.5v 4.7A adapter... I called sony and they are sending a new adapter should take 3-5 days... But in the meantime i have to run it with my bat in as a buffer which is gonna slowly destroy my new battery. Seems like i always get the defective products.... Annoying.

Another note: While it is plugged in right now there is a sound coming from the fan port area it sounds like feedback over some wiring from the charge... If i unplug the charge for a second the sound goes away... Seriously not impressed with sony atm...

3437 hours on battery remaining. Impressive!

I wonder whether the problem is the power section on the main board and not the PSU. You can use the battery info part of RMClock to monitor the charge / discharge power. When running on battery the power drain should be 20W to 60W depending on light to heavy usage.
