I got a Z17 last month and found that there was a big dark shade on upper part of the screen when I test it at home. I immediately bring it back to Sony and they change another one for me. This one is much better but still have some uneven dark shade at the bottom. My question is, is that normally happen on Sony laptop coz my Fuji P7230 didn't have that issue.

Would be nice to have a photo of the issue.

Mine has slightly darker area in bottom when viewing upside down, and it moves to the top, when I look at the screen from below. So I think it mostly caused by TN panel, than uneven backlight (because it depends on viewing angles)

This is the photo for the one before I changed. A big dark shade on middle top portion of the screen.

This looks like the same problem I had with my z's display. You could only really notice it on a light or white coloured background.

I exchanged the previous z I had for a new one at the store. The new one doesn't have this problem. Good luck with your exchange, as this is not acceptable for such an expensive notebook.

This is similar to the banding problems found on the SZs.

Possible a factory defect on some units because forest boy got one that doesnt have this problem.

I've tried looking for this on my Z and mine doesn't have it either. (Phew!) It's true that a pure white screen changes in brightness/intensity as you move your head at different angles relative to the screen... but I think that's normal behaviour for a laptop screen. Mine certainly hasn't got the obvious dark patches as shown in the linked photo.

Good luck with your return, I hope you get a good one next time! :)

I have no vertical artefacts. But on bright even backgrounds my screen easyly shows horisontal darker areas, so to see the clean even picture from 1-2 feet - I have to cach a good angle.

Is that normal or should I sell my Z?
