I just have uninstalled the Intel Proset, but keep the driver for 3945ABG, my SZ performs much faster (on XP). So I let Windows manages the Wireless connection instead of of Intel Proset.![]()

Thats wot i do wit me asus as well! It cuts like 9 extra background processes...no wonder!
-
Uninstalling this application will actually benefit more than just the SZ.
Uninstalling Intel PRO/Wireless on any computer will save resources: RAM & CPU. -
Yeah. But other people may think this utility is more useful, user-frienly and secured than the windows built-in utility.
-
i never installed back the Intel PRO wireless software on any of my laptops after i found out this was the problem that makes the laptop search for the network for at least 30 minutes before it can connect to it to certain networks. this is really frustrating when you urgently need some internet connection while having the laptop with you out at a coffee shop, office or school.
-
I don't recall an improvement in speed, but stability was definitely enhanced and a shutdown delay eliminated. Now I just install the driver and do not bother with proset.
-
could someone provide a link to the driver?
-
Where do I uninstall this thing? Will it benefit for Vista?
-
@Sylonien: Look through the Add/Remove Programs in the control panel. You should be able to find it there. Also, Intel PRO does not delete a lot of the data when you remove it this way. Go to Program files and wipe it out. Use a registry cleaner to clear any entries.
And yes, in my experience with 2 notebooks, there is a benefit doing this while using Vista. -
It's not on my Program's list?
But I have found this...Attached Files:

this sounds interesting...
from what i've read:
if i go to control panel --> add/remove programs and remove the intel proset then wipe out the file in PROGRAMS FOLDER [or just use an uninstaller program like smarty uninstaller to do the entire job] i will still be able to use the wireless connection? please confirm -
Well I don't even have that Proset thing, I've got the Sony Wireless and LAN Switch Utility - which I beliveve is a different thing?
-
From my experience, when i uninstalled the proset wireless software, the utility was smart enough to also uninstall the driver. So i decided to reinstall it, but disabled the proset software from starting up (Window's utility does the same job, less resources)
-
-
uninstalling proset also uninstalled the driver for me. i downloaded driver only from intel's website. wireless working normally without proset.
-
Good to hear from you. Make sure you get the latest driver from Intel. Do you face any difficulties to connect wifi without the Intel ProSet?
-
I followed the advice on this thread and disabled ProSet, and started using Windows Zero Config. It does seem to connect more quickly than before, and I don't have the issue I used to have with ProSet of it hanging when coming back from hibernation; however, I've noticed that WZC now reports the signal strength as "low" when it used to be "very good" from exactly the same location.
I've tried researching whether ProSet somehow gets better signal strength, but can't find anything about it. One thing I did find is that ProSet will keep hold of the network you've connected to while you roam around, while WZC constantly goes out and looks for something stronger, and has a tendency to disable you more often.
Does anyone know for sure if ProSet actually creates/maintains a stronger signal? -

Drivers only XP Pro..

Hi there!
The only problem, in my opinion, is that it needs a lot of time to estabilish a connection to an access point.
When I'm using Linux, it associates very quickly (less than one second).
Do you think I should uninstall Intel PROSet/Wireless Connection tool? -
I can't find this Intel PROSet utility under my Programs and Defaults menu - does it mean it's not installed by Sony? I'm not having any connection problems with my Vista.
-
I'm the only one without problems on my vaio SZ3HP/B without unistalling anything??
my vaio connects quickly to all networks -
I have uninstalled the PROset utility and now it connects faster, but I cannot use the Sony Wireless Switcher utility anymore!!!????
I have reinstalled it and the shared library etc. and updated to the latest INTEL drivers but it seems it won't run anymore although it is listed as a startup program.
HELP!!
It also wiped out my function key...
BUT
never mind...reinstalled all the Sony Utilities and shared libraries and notebook control and everything is back... -
Hi again, my only problem now instead, is that even though I use PROSet tool or not, it requires a long time to get the IP address.
Note that my router has DHCP not enabled and I prefer to set up manually a static IP both on Linux and Windows.
Using Linux it associates very fast (regarding wi-fi connection) and gets the ip so quickly, but it's not the same for windows for the IP assignment.
When I'm on windows I chosen to set up a static IP address, but once the configuration has been saved, it loose the settings on next reboot.
So, I am obligated to use the "Alternate configuration" tab on TCP/IP Protocol of my ethernet connection properties and wait for a long time to get an IP. The real trouble is that a DHCP will never run on my router, and once it discovers there's no DHCP server running, it tries with alternate config.
That's all.
Bye. -
Hi guys,
This is a related but slightly off-topic issue. When I boot my computer up, I get the message in the tray and "One or more wireless networks detected blah blah blah," but when I open up the Wireless Network Connection window, it always says "No wireless networks were found in range." I'm using Windows to help detect my wireless, and I never installed the Intel software. Does anyone have any idea why my wireless isn't working? My wireless switch is set to be on... Thanks! -
Experienced many times myself - I tried switching wireless OFF/ON, but normally I have to restart Windows to resolve it.
Annoying but I can't think of anything that helps.
Uninstall Intel ProSet Utility, SZ runs faster!
