After a complete installation of Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit on my new VGN-FW160D, there is a unknown device in the device manager. I check the property, it shows Intel ICH9M LPC Ineterface Controller - 2919. I had installed the intel chipset driver, but it is still there. Anyone know what it is?

Right click and do uninstall. Then scan for new hardware. If nothing comes up, you've got no problems. If it comes back, then try reinstalling your chipset and card reader drivers.

Yea, its the chipset and driver installation is very important. Either run a windows update or google to get the driver.

Heres one place to get it.

I think it is the Express card driver, but I can't find it from the Sony download website.

Have you tried letting Vista seach for the driver online?
Right click in device manager, properties... etcetera?

I checked the system device. The Intel ICH9M LPC Ineterface Controller - 2919 is already shown up there. The auto update updated the Intel chipset right after the flash install. But I still have the unknown device. Tried many time for the auto search by right click and update, and it did not find anything. Still wondering what it is.

Did you try what I suggested? I've seen unknown devices show up when they're not supposed to anymore, and simply uninstalling fixes it. If there REALLY is hardware, it will show right back up once you rescan for hardware.

I try delete it and restart the computer. At the first screen, it ask for the installation of the device, then I click auto install by search internet, but it can't find the driver.

I am going write down all the components listed in the device manager and cross check the same Sony FW-160D display at Bestbuy to find out which device that I miss.

Found it. It is the Sony Firmware Extension Device under the Human Interface Devices. Don't know what it exactly does, but the unknown device is now gone.
