I was thinking of upgrading my RAM on my S2XP from 512mb to 1gb. The price of an official Sony 512mb upgrade chip is £200 which is extortionate! So I found some other brands who make a RAM that will fit and they come for less than half the price.
However, Sony shop assistants told me that installing RAM that wasn't from Sony could damage my Vaio. Does anyone have any knowledge or feedback about this [?]
Thanks
Matt

As long as it is the correct type of memory you shouldn't have any problems. Worst that will happen is it won't work and you can return it and try a differnet brand. The Sony techs have a vested interest in telling you to only use their memory, they make a lot of money.
I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.
