    Unreliable MemStick: is it the SZ?

    Sony MemoryStick Pro Duo 4GB, FAT32

    I use that MemoryStick with AllwaySync as an "external drive" on which I store daily incremental backups.

    However, it's unreliable. Once in a while the drive simply becomes invisible, and to "see" it again I've had to reformat. This has been a problem with two different 4GB MemStick devices.

    Is this a problem with the laptop? Is there some way of diagnosing? Is there a utility that will improve reliability?

    I have no problems at all with an 8GB card in the ExpressCard slot.

    UPDATE: The suspect Memory Stick is running perfectly in another device.
