I am using battery and the wireless is really unstable!! (I was using LAN while charging it and don't want to recharge it before the battery run out) The wireless can connected to router sometimes immediately after restart the windows, and whenever it disconnected, it took FOREVER to get connected again! I even tried to reboot several times but didn't work well. One of the problem is "Data encryption" of my "preferred network" swith to "Disable" from "WEP" automatically and can't be changed no matter what.
I have IBM T30 by hand which has no problem at all with D-Link wireless USB adaptor. Is it possible I got a flaw? BTW, my router is NETGEAR 802.11b, 2.4G, and I have Intel 2200b/g on S580.
Thanks a million for help!

I finally found it's the problem between intel 2200 and my router. The intel 2200 working perfectly in my office, so I am going to get a new router on black friday. May I have the router brand and type of those who have intel 2200 and working fine? Thanks a lot!

That's good news! I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router 2.4Ghz 802.11g (WRT54G) and a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4Ghz 802.11g range expander (WRE54G) both working smoothly with Intel 2200.
I'm going to order an S-580 today or tomorrow, are you satisfied with your purchase so far? -
EPluribusUnum, thank you for your advice first.
I am super satified with my S580 now except it came without any partitions in hard drive. I have to use some softwares to resize it myself. Also there is no option for burning Recovery Disk on double layer DVD. You have to burn it on more than one disk no matter what.
Another thing is that I recovered my system in two hours after recieving my S580. The reason is Norton Antivirus and McAfee don't like each other. I installed McAfee because I dislike Norton Antivirus. After that, my system became crazy: it freeze for 5 minutes or so every time I click something. So I recover my system and remove Norton, then everything is wonderful so far!!
As I mentioned in the other thread, overheat problem is gone with new version of BIOS (it is pre-installed in my S580). Now the temp is under 50 most of the time even I didn't do any undervoltage.
Battery is still wiggling. I put two small padding to help it. And I got 2hr 45min while using "VAIO" optimized" and >3hr using "VAIO maximum" and brighten screen at the same time. This actually surprised me.
I'll suggest you customize your S580 with 256M RAM and buy 2X1G PC4200 somewhere else to replace it. They use PC3200 for S580 which I think it's not worthy to upgrade it while customizing yours.
I went to office depot today to see how IBM z60t look like, and I am so happy I choosed Sony! -
Thanks a lot! I'm going to place my order shortly.

Finally, I updated the driver and use software provided by Intel to get everything work just fine.

You might want to check if your router has a firmware update.
I have a WRT54G from Linksys that works great, but I have noticed a slight problem. When I hibernate my laptop at night, and then use another laptop the next day the new laptop will get issued the same IP and when I resume my S-580 I will have problems with both laptops connecting. The cure is usually to reboot both laptops (Release and Renewing did not seem to want to work). I also had a problem with a D-Link G-router at my sister's house, but it could be the same problem with two computers having the same IP. The second laptop also has a D-Link wireless cards, seems I am always having problems with D-Link Network stuff.
Unstable wireless of my S580?
