I am looking to update my RAM on my sony Vaio model: PCG-7F7P

I currently have 512mb of RAM but would like at least 1GB maybe two. Is this just a case of purchasing another RAM stick and incerting it in the back?

Does my laptop require a specific brand or model of RAM?

My specs allow for 2 GB, does this mean I can either purchase another 512mb, a 1Gb or a 2GB stick?

what price should I look to pay?

    thanks so much

Hi kingy, Welcome to NBR :)

Usually ram is accessed through a panel on the base of the laptop, i can't find a disassembly guide on your model so i can't be sure but i'd guess yours is the same.

You need any brand of notebook memory, bestbuy is a popular site in the U.S for purchasing componants.
Find out what speed of memory your laptop supports then buy either a 1 x 512mb stick, a 1 x 1gb stick or a 2 x 1gb set to upgrade your laptop.
For general use, assuming your running windows xp, 1gig of ram would be optimal.

You shouldn't have to pay too much more than $30.

    Hope this helps,

    Willy.

Just buy any memory available for the lowest price that has the same specs(speed) as the notebook needs/supports.

I'd buy 2x1GB, always better than 512MB or 1GB :) Just check if it's DDR or DDR2 memory you need. SO-DIMM ram-sticks ofcourse.
