I would like to upgrade the 100GB hard drive on a Sony VAIO VGN-FS940 to a Western Digital WD2500BEVE 250GB hard drive. The Sony support site states "Sony will only support the original hard drive included with the computer. Specifications and information for upgrading to a larger hard drive is not supported by Sony and is not provided."

    So, my questions are:
    1) Does the FS940 BIOS support drives as large as 250GB.
    2) Do I need to format the drive with special software so that I can see the whole drive?
    3) Has anyone had experience upgrading the FS940 or similar VAIO with a drive larger than 100GB? Can you share your experience and any difficulties encountered?

    Thanks much!

    - Marek

The Hard drive is not the same size as the original. It is a 250GB hard drive. The original is 100GB.

it should still not be a problem.. but If you are installing XP again and then remember that the whole hd might not be recognized by XP until you install SP2.. but after you install SP2, you should be able to use partition magic or any other comparable software to add it as additional partition or merge it with your current partition.
