I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the 1366x768 screen on the VGN-Z610Y/B to the 1600X900 from the VGZ-Z690 or something or if there is some type of bios limitation that I should be aware of.

I was able to find the Service Manual so replacing it should not be a problem I just want to make sure it is compatible, I did ask a seller on Ebay and they said it is compatible but I want to be sure. Thanks. :)

Probably you are the first to consider such an upgrade. Technically it should be compatible if the LCD on ebay is for VGN-Z (have you considered these guys?)

In my experience, I had only once had a problem upgrading LCD several years ago. That happened with Acer laptop that used "inverted" LCD (different type of signaling). After installing a new one I got psychedelic colors on screen (magenta, lime, etc.).

That screen is super expensive. It might be cheaper just to sell your 610 and buy a 690.

Yeah, it says it is compatible. Also I can get the LCD straight from Sony.

The one I got was a display model (got a very nice deal :)) so I have no box or software so I doubt I'd get enough from it to really justify that.

A new 1600x900 LCD from Sony is about $500 and I should be able to get about $200 from the old one, that would not be too bad really.
