Thanks to Lattice, There is a solution:
-
I don't think that will work
cause the driver won't install if you aren't installing it on the specific model.. -
really??? dammit. anyone confirm this?
-
it's easy to find out
download another SR model's driver and try to install it on yours
it will give you an error message saying something like the model number doesn't match -
I'm fairly certain that as long as the hardware components are the same (i.e. same wireless card, same sound card, same graphics card), then it should work. Drivers don't detect your notebook model - they detect your actual hardware. Double-check to make sure that the individual components are the same, then install away!
-
really??
it never worked when i tried to install another SR model's driver.. -
That's strange. Have you tried installing from device manager using the *.inf files rather than using their installers? That usually fixes any problems I have.
-
oh i have never tried that before..
thanks for the tips
i might need that in the future -
So have you guys tried installing sr290 drivers on sr190? Cause I have the same problem, I just bought Ultimate and installed it on my laptop but it seems that nothing works now.
Oh and another question, how do you install using .inf files in device manager? -
somebody tried that too, but it doesn't work also.. -
Sucks, so there's absolutely no way to use SR290's drivers with SR190 eh? What really sucks is Sony Customer Support. My buddy wanted to install 64-bit Vista Ultimate on my machine because I have 4GB of memory and 32-bit Home Premium doesn't address all 4GB. He deleted the partition without creating a restore disc for me and now I have to buy a restore disc from Sony because they said it's past 30 days. ***! Now I'll be short $38.95.
If anyone wants to know the part number for Vista Home Premium 32-bit it's: Y8317400A (SR190) -
Dude. $40 for the recovery disk can't possibly be worth it, especially considering how much you must have spent for ultimate. Have you tried extracting the drivers from the SR290 models using Universal Extractor? I just tested it on the ATI executable for the SR129 and it worked.
-
somebody in the SR thread tried it -
That's strange. I just tried the Universal Extractor on the RealTek HDMI Audio driver (REDAUD-15853300-64.EXE) for Vista Ultimate 64-bit from the SR290 using WUN_UNPACKER option and it extracted the files just fine. What was the file that was giving the other user trouble?
-
He got the 64bit audio driver off Realtek's web site..
I think he was trying to install the driver for the Fn keys.. but it didnt work..
I have no idea haven't tried it myself.. -
Well, I was referring to the 64-bit drivers directly from Sony Support, which are packaged into an exe, so I think we're talking about two different things. The function keys should not be RealTek anyway. They should come with the Sony Utilities. Hopefully extracting the utilities exe and going directly to setup.exe instead of checkver.exe which gets executed first if you install without unpacking will bypass the system check requirements.
-
No... I think you misunderstood..
You said you "tried the Universal Extractor on the RealTek HDMI Audio driver (REDAUD-15853300-64.EXE) for Vista Ultimate 64-bit from the SR290 using WUN_UNPACKER option and it extracted the files just fine"
and I said that that guy didn't get the Realtek driver off Sony's web site, he got it off Realtek's website.
What he tried to install was the 64bit Sony Utilities driver for the SR290 on his SR190, but it didn't work.
Everything works on his SR190 with 64bit Vista except for the Sony Utilities Functions (Fn keys, HDD protection, Battery Care Function, etc...) and the Mode Switch.. -
nvm on what I said
it looks like it works now..
I might give it a try myself later.. -
cool thanks Lattice! will have to try this out when the school quarter is over
Upgrade SR190 to Vista Ultimate 64 Bit using SR290 drivers?
