    Hi all,

Just wondering if self upgrading the hdd voids the warranty? The hdd is not on the side therefore I'll have to take the top cover off completely to get access to the hdd.

Even if it voids warranty I'll upgrade it, since I've got a 7200rpm lying around and its better than a 5400 rpm drive. But I'll just be more careful when dismantling the parts.

Yes, it will void the warranty.
Even you don't have to break a seal, except this Saftey-Glue of the screws.

I can Imagine that the BIOS saves some changes and warnings and Sony can read them out.

Sony Japan still fixed my screen even though I upgraded my hard drive.

Thats japan though, im in uk. But then again they never even bother checking the serial when they repair it.

I have upgraded my 5400 rpm drive to 7200 rpm. The clicking noise on the faster hdd is annoying :( It doesn't sound healthy but I'm sure its just cos its a faster drive. I also don't feel much difference when loading large files etc. Maybe will swap it back again.

Did you get a noticeable performance gain?

Maybe slightly, tried opening like all the programs on it at the same time. But not so much that you can see the difference. Games still pretty much loads the same.

The old disk is a 5400 seagate 80gb. New one is 7200rpm 80gb seagate. Both sata.

A good waste of 2 hours imaging the disk and another 30 mins replacing the disk. Now I probably will swap it back out.
