Hey guys, I think my title pretty much says it all,

I have a 512Gb SSD and a bluray drive in my Z, and I'd like more space and am willing to pay the premium to get a 4x256Gb 1Tb SSD drive. This is because of 2 reasons:

    1) Out of space, and laptop is used to show Blurays all the time (and I can't store them all on drive, and an external drive would ruin the portability, wow-factor counts for my use also), so replacing the optical spindle with 1Tb additional drive is out. Neither do I want to upgrade to the new Z with external AMD graphics/drive.

    2) One of the 128Gb drives keeps popping out of the RAID array, making me nervous it is going to fail. It's probably just the intel drivers freaking out for no reason (as it always pops straight back in, there is no data loss, even momentarily, not even a pause on a RAID 0 array), but it's enough to make me more willing to upgrade.

So the question is, since mine is the generation of Vaio Z before you could strip a 1.8" drive of its casing (not that you could do that for Quad RAID anyway), can anyone tell me where to purchase this "1Tb Samsung Quad RAID" drive, and for how much? Here in Australia, Sony just gives you confused looks if you even ask for the 512Gb, but I have people who can get it from Japan/USA for me if needs be if we can find out where, although insured shipping is better ;)

Thanks guys, all help is appreciated!

Which Vaio model is this? Are you referring to a Vaio VPC-Z1?

Bleh, I just searched a parts site and they sold 2x256GB for ~$1000, but no parts that would go up to 1TB.

As an alternative, you may want to see if you can get a Z14 which came with a 1TB (256GB×4) Quad SSD option, although I think this was only offered in Japan.

Wow. 1TB SSD. Not to long ago I was drooling over a 1Gb (yes, that is not a typo) 5.25" hard disk drive ... Micropolis as I remember. I had one of the original IBM PC AT computers, though mine was a slightly newer model with 512Kb (not a typo) of RAM and a HUGE 30Mb (again not a typo) hard disk drive, which I did subsequently replace with that $1000 Micropolis hard drive. Ah the old days ...

Anyway, good luck to you ... 1Tb SSD is impressive indeed.

Unfortunately, that ridiculous price that I mentioned was for two single 256GB SSD boards stuck together already. At that rate, I suppose it might be $4k for 1TB. :p

Ha! I remember when filling up a 10MB disc was considered quite an accomplishment.

That's without thinking back to Tiny Basic....
