I used search as I indicated, thanks however I am not looking to replace my DVD drive with a hard drive. As I indicated I am looking to upgrade my existing hard drive as mentioned in the two posts I referenced I found in search, however the links are bad.

Anyone? I need to know how to upgrade my 320GB to a 500GB hard drive.

You can't without replacing the optical driver. The current Z uses proprietary SSD...

Oh wait, if you are talking about one that already uses 2.5" HDD, then it should be be pretty straight forward after you open up the laptop.

Exactly how depends on whether you have a VGN-Z (old series) or a VPC-Z (new series). It does require opening up the entire computer, and be careful not to break any lines or lose thing-that-can-fall-off, but isn't that hard for either model.

But replacing a 320 GB drive with a 500 GB one would mean going to 5400 RPM -- your access times will be worse, if you currently have a 7200 RPM drive.
In that case, I would recommend buying an external USB drive instead, and put the Really Big files where speed doesn't matter much (like videos) on the external drives.

The VGN-Z series ( old ) notebooks should have the 7200 RPM Hitachi hard drives built in with 320 or 500 GB depending which was bought and can be replaced with another like this :

    Newegg.com - HITACHI Travelstar 7K500 HD20500 IDK/7K 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive

There are other 2.5 inch notebook 500 GB hard drives available as well.
