Hi all I'm an impluse buyer and have a TZ340 on order. At the time I thought it would be nice having an ultralight with an optical drive and really long battery life, but ten looking at the specs ULV U7600 1.2ghz cput and 100gb PATA 4200 rpm, 1gb ram, i'm starting to get buyers remorse cause it seems like the hardware is kind of dated already. Anyone with some of the older TZ models have any relatively cheap modification suggestions to speed up the laptop when I get it. I have some 2gb so dimms laying around so I'll just swap that in for the 1gb, but anyone have any suggestions on some smaller ssd drives available now? I believe the 100gb pata drive in the tz is a 1.8" drive, do they make 1.8" pata ssd drives? Thanks for the help.

Hi in this post a forum member mentioned a Runcore SSD drive.

I checked it out today. Price wise i think that the drive maybe a bit to expensive because i searched it on the net and the retail price is listed as $199 for a 64GB drive.

Also, these drives seem a little vulnerable to me. This drive does seem interesting though and i would also expect the price to come down a bit in a few months time.
There are Mtron 32GB SSD 1.8 drives out there. I don't know what the power consumption of this drive is. The 2.5 Mtron drives power consumption was pretty much on par with standard HD's though.
There are Samsung UATA drives out there but they are hard to come by and pretty expensive also.
I came across some PQI drives in my search for a drive for myself but they seem pretty impossible to get hold of.
I don't know if there are any more out there.
Edited to add:
I came across this thread they have some figures there for the Mtron drive.

You can also order the RunCore drive from this website. I wonder what the power consumption is for this drive.

Make sure to buy the 1.8 inch SSDs with ZIF interface.
As far as I know, the only available SSDs with ZIF is Mtron, Samsung and Sandisk.
I recently purchased a 32gb from Mtron and the computer flies....
You will only see 1 & 1/2 worms when booting if you install Windows XP into this baby.
The only problem is that windows XP SP3 / Vista Business alone takes up about 15gb of hard drive space.
Upgrade for Sony TZ series (TZ340)?
