I currently have an FE-590 with a Core Duo 1.83.

I managed to get my hands on a Core 2 Duo 2.16 and tried to upgrade.

Had no trouble getting to the CPU and it pops out after the little screw unlocks.

The new chip went in just fine. But it failed to boot. The lights all went on for the num lock, cap lock, etc and then it just sat there.

So I put the old chip back in and it's working fine again.

I heard that someone had luck upgrading an SZ series but I guess the bios in the FE - 590 does not support this chip. Dammit !

I had thought the newer FE790 and FE 590 would have the same motherboard and bios but I guess not.
