Original Toshiba (MK2546GSX) 250GB died . . . TWICE! First time was under warranty and Sony replaced with like make/model. Now, after only 6 mo. the replacement has died (so has the warranty). :(

I purchased a Seagate 320 drive to replace it. Installed and tried to boot to Install OS. Windows did not recognize any hard drives on system.

Drive shows in BIOS but not to OS.

    Can anyone help?

Note: Partitioning software (Partition Magic 8.0), recognizes the drive and allowed me to format it. However, using Microscope, it does not see the drive nor does the Windows install disk.

    HELP!!!

Had a useless conversation with Sony tech support. All they want is to send in for repair.

In a "AH-HA" moment, I've surmised that the BIOS is looking for a specific drive. Does anyone know how I might edit the Sony BIOS to remove this requirement?
