I have a SZ440 and I recently purchased a UJ832d dvdrw drive to upgrade from my cdrw.
I installed it with no problem and xp (after downgrading from vista bc I love xp) recognized the drive as MAT****A UJ 832D.
So i tried burning a dvd data using nero and both times with different dvd discs it gave me a WRITE FAIL.
I was thinking it was the drivers so I tried downloading and installing newer drivers without success because the model was incorrect.
Any suggestions where I can find some current generic drivers for my SZ440 (which I love!!!!)
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

You shouldn't need any driver other than the one that comes with Windows. You might want to delete your ide drivers. Windows will install them when rebooted. A chipset update for your notebook or a firmware upgrade for the drive are a couple other possibilities as well.
I have had a couple Mat****a drives. I was not all that impressed with them. You might want to try some different media. Taiyo Yudens are widely considered to be the best blank discs, both CDs and DVDs. -
Thank you, I will try that!!!
Upgrade to Matchita uj 832d
