I own a Sony VAIO K25, and I'm looking to upgrade from the preinstalled home edition to the much better professional edition. When complete I'd like to restore the factory installed Sony defaults if possible, so I can have all the sony apps, and the help and support files embedded into the home edition by sony. If possible, I would also like to have the drivers restore themselve into XP Pro, and have access to the restore utility, all in XP Pro. Any suggestions and or hints or even a walkthrough would be plenty helpful, and I offer my praise and thank you's in advance.

It's a lot of work. Mark my words you're in for a real treat. Make sure you can find ALL of the drivers for your laptop. Sony will create a hidden partition where all these drivers are stored...can't remember all the details but Google it and you'll have decent success. You can also download most drivers from their website, however, I wasn't able to download all of them.

I was actually able to just use the VAIO restore utility from partition C to install XP Pro on partition D. Then I selected the option to just restore apps. It worked perfectly.
