Lots of luck going back to the Sony Driver.
I had to reinstall Windows.
The Intel Driver installs files that remain and cause problems when you uninstall and reinstall the Sony driver. -
Hi Carlot, try here.
http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/945gm/index.htm
Click Support and Download the latest grapihcs driver (And also try get the Chipset as well)
Hope it works. cheers -

That driver looks like the older one which was plugged from the Intel website after bug were reported. Try this link to the latest one. On my Asus R1f it reports itself as version 7.14.10.1295, launched after yours so just install over the top of yours and no need to downgrade or re-install windows.

That should fix it up. Dont know how Intel released the previous driver the way it did. They probably felt nobody would care as its only start-up and shutdown. They were proved wrong. All seems better now with the new ones. Enjoy.

Hi Juris, the link I provided, also can download the latest.
Im sure when I Clicked your link, the file was already in my folder, so it is same. yes my driver is also 1295.
However, Do you guys feel some 'slowness' or lag ? In my case I turned off every effects and running like Win98 GUI, but still. even at high performance, in general I feel l some slow response with GUI.
For instance, if I click 'start' I see menu displays instantly (but not all menus are shown), and about 0.1s later, I see 'Windows Update' (top) and 'Windows Vista' (left side) appears.... Thus, i feel some lagness.... -
I just upgraded mine and didn't notice any lag in responsiveness.
I use the classic start menu w/ sidebar enabled. -

I notice a lag on any Vista machine over time, desktop or laptop. Although this can be levelled at xp as well vista just seesms to go downhill more and more unless you stop the os from going off and running process after process over and over again for seemingly no reason.
Are you noticing the lag only since you upgraded the graphics drivers or has it been going downhill in general (noticed your thread regards slow hibernation times)?. -
That lag should be fixed with SP1. I feel a minor lag, im running AERO and no sidebar. But i still feel my tz pretty fast.
-
Juris and calot, it didnt happen after driver updates. In general case that is..
I think you are right, a typical OS thingy.. the more u use, the more lag appearing behavior...
Anyway, one thing for sure, is that, I remember I clean-installed Business, and surely this was no-lag.
Then I suddenly felt i need to upgrade to Ultimate to support MUI, and I think this bloody upgrade screwed the basic settings, etc. E.g., after Ultimate, I had to re-configure settings (user-account was preserved), and re-download all the Updates!!!, and I was like WTF M$ lied to me, because before I upgrade they specifically said something like 'all settings would remain unchanged..'
Damn,, I might as well re-do clean install... I don't believe there are any solution to get rid of this problem.. -

Unfortunately its not a typical OS thing, its a typical Microsoft OS thing. OSX users dont generally have these problems. The important thing to remember about Vista, which marks it out is that it is DRM laden top to bottom. This thing no matter how pretty it is keeps on communicating with home base, keeps on making temp files and is generally very busy tracking everything that is going on. Its a bit unnerving and causes slowdowns. And I dont trust MS as far as I can throw them after their participation in the Maelstrom project. If you think im paranoid then heres an example. A couple of days before vista was launched MS released an update to repair a 'flaw' which caused unauthorized user data to be sent to MS. As a beta they could avoid the law, as a release product they could not. Bull**** MS. Ok paranoid rant over.
Couple that with the bunch of 2nd rate (and thats being kind) coders in MS and you have the recipe for an OS which gradually cripples itself. I just partitioned my R1f drive and installed Vista ultimate on it. It flies. In a week it wont. What im gonna do is do a clean install again of the os, load on all my programs and updates, set up opera rtc with all my passwords and favourites and then immediately image the whole drive before I start to use the programs in any meaningful way.
If I do it this way when vista turns into an oap I can just reload the drive image and continue on with my work as if nothing has happened. Im just gonna save any non-os related files (music, photos, docs etc) to a seperate partition so I dont lose work and still have an efficient os. Now I just have to select a program to do it. Does anyone have any recommendations.
Upgraded graphics driver on Tz but..
