    I just upgraded to the final version of Vista Business on my Sony SZ, and there is now no sound! When I hover over the sound icon, it says no audio output device is installed.

    Has anyone else experienced the same thing or may have a clue as to how to fix this?

    Had an issue with a client with no audio on laptop, wouldn't even detect it, update from MS fixed it and installed the driver
    if that doesn't fix it then d/l the driver via manf. and install if avail. (depending on make /model of sound card)

    VISTA does not support some soundcards out of the box. You need to install the soundcard driver provided above.

    No, VISTA does.
    My sound worked fine till when I connected a headphone or speakers to the sound jack, there was no output.
    Even when the sound worked with the laptop speakers.
    VISTA brings the HD-Sound-Codec, but not the Sigmatel specific driver.

    thanks for the link.

    something weird is going on..for some reason vista keeps on replacing the new driver i installed with the old one(which doesn't have sound). While the driver is installing, i have sound but as soon as it's done installing and move to configuring, i lost sound. I tired uninstalling the original driver (including removing the driver software), then ran the exe of the new driver, and I get the same thing. In fact, after installing the new driver, the device manager still reports the old driver (based on the date).

    I also tried the update driver option and tell it to search the directory containing the new driver, and vista reports that the current one is already the latest.

    Any ideas?

    <edit>
    nevermind, the vista drivers are out!

    i tried the sony exe file for audio, and the speaker is now working. The headphone however does not work automatically. If you right click on the audio icon and select playback device, it shows the headphone is working, and if you run the test it indeed works. However, when you run other applications, no sound comes out of headphone. This is fixed by setting the headphone as the primary device. Though I'm not sure why this is even necessary, but at least it works now.

    Did you install finger printer driver and Memorystick driver for SZ? Where did you find them? Sony did not post them.

    In case you find this link because you're trying to solve this problem, find this file on the Internet: STDAUD-01487700-UN. It's from the UK Sony site. The audio drivers from the US site did not solve the problems mentioned here, but this one solved all of them (no sound and no phone jack output). My unit is an SZ 330P. Good luck.
