Hey everyone I am planning to upgrade my new SZ-480 which has Vista Business pre-installed to Vista Ultimate.

Has anyone done this yet? If so what things do I have to look out for to make the upgrade as smooth as possible?

I been reading all the other posts regarding upgrading to Vista but the upgrade was from Win XP.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

All you have to do is pop the Vista Ultimate upgrade DVD, and follow the on screen instructions, it's pretty simple. Just make sure that you have all the needed Vista drivers on hand as you may need them if they are somehow overwritten or corrupted.

Thanks for the reply. Now do I use the drivers that originally came from with my recovery discs or from online? Also these drivers are they more specific for Vista Business or are they generic to work with any Vista version?

Tep, they will work for Vista Ultimate as well, I would recommend using the online drivers as they are most likely newer, but the drivers on the DVD/s will work also, good luck :)

    I've done it as well,

You can just go to Microsoft's Anytime Upgrade (in the control panel). Purchase the upgrade for 139+tax, and it will install it off the vista image already partitioned on your hard drive. This way you don't have to purchase an upgrade dvd.

The upgrade was very smooth, the only problem I had was with the audio driver. To fix, I had to uninstall the current audio driver, and windows automatically installed the correct driver. Since then everything has been working well

    Good luck

Ok nevermind, got my first major hickup - after doing the upgrade, Sony's "Help and Support" was replaced by the generic microsoft one.

I'm trying to find the help and support, with no luck. Specifically I am looking for the recovery wizard, which I was still unable to find (previously I made my recovery disks through sony's help -> recovery center)

If anyone has a solution to this please let me know.

So all the functions buttons work, power management and brightness? I already purchased an Ultimate upgrade so I guess I'll just use this. Wondering if you can use your recovery disk to install the vaio help and support documents.

Thanks for the help I guess I'll take the plunge
